4 Reasons We Need More Deep Thinkers

In leadership, we're often drawn to confident voices, but does confidence truly equal competence? Discover why organizations thrive with deep thinkers who consider multiple perspectives rather than smooth talkers who merely project certainty. True leadership requires substance beyond style and thoughtful analysis over quick assertions.
James Schreier's insight:

There's an element to this that I believe should be considered.  Personality (style or preferences) may impact this.  For example, individuals with a high "intuitive" style are more likely to quickly change their thoughts.  Doesn't mean they cannot be "deep thinkers" particularly when available tools can be used to focus thought.

Most people believe they’re great thinkers.

Most people believe they’re great thinkers. | Thinking Clearly and Analytically | Scoop.it
Most people believe they’re great thinkers.

(But studies show only 1 in 10 actually are.)

Critical thinking isn’t about being smart.

It’s about using a smarter process.

So what is critical thinking?

It's how you:

➟ Examine information from all angles
➟ Question what you read and hear
➟ Find the truth (not just any answer)

Why does it matter?

Because poor thinking leads to poor decisions.
And poor decisions lead to poor results.

Use this 5-stage cycle to build stronger thinking:

1. GATHER EVIDENCE
Verify before you trust.
Check dates and sources.
Ask: Where did this come from?

2. CHALLENGE ASSUMPTIONS
Question what seems obvious.
Spot your hidden beliefs.
Ask: What if I'm wrong?

3. EXPLORE PERSPECTIVES
Get out of your bubble.
See different sides.
Ask: Who disagrees with this?

4. GENERATE ALTERNATIVES
Think beyond your default.
Mix ideas together.
Ask: What else could work?

5. MAP IMPLICATIONS
Think ahead.
Trace ripple effects.
Ask: What happens next?

The key? Don't stop at step 1.
Strong thinkers cycle through all 5.

Sometimes you loop back.
That's not indecision.
That's wisdom.

In a world full of hot takes and quick opinions,
this is how you stay clear-headed.

Save it.
Share it.
Use it.

Because the quality of your thinking shapes
the quality of your life.

Agree?

The brain processes images

The brain processes images | Thinking Clearly and Analytically | Scoop.it
The brain processes images,

60,000 times faster than text.

This is exactly why visuals matter more than you might think.

Whenever anyone tells me;
★ The shot looks fine
★ No one will notice the different colour
★ Don't worry about the cover, it's what the pitch says inside
★ The thumbnail doesn't matter that much
★ Let's worry about lighting last
★ Comic Sans font...

I cry a little inside.

In a world drowning in content, visual storytelling is your secret weapon.

Design is more than just aesthetics,
→ it's a powerful language of emotion, connection, and communication.

A visual choice is often the only chance,
→ to stop someone mid-scroll,
→ to hook someone into your story.
→ to convey your brand's message in a split second.

Even if the decision is
→ handheld,
→ selfie cam,
→ using the little mic on old Apple wired headphones.
This is a visual language decision and should align with what the content is communicating.

Don't forget:
★ Colour Psychology:
→ Your palette should align with your emotional message.

★ Hierarchy Matters:
→ Use size, contrast, and placement to highlight key information.

★ Whitespace is your Friend:
→ Don't fear empty space it allows things to breathe.

★ Consistency is Key:
→ Develop a cohesive visual identity.

★ Try visual hooks:
→ How can you use visuals to grab attention instantly.

For marketers, content creators, and brands, understanding the psychology of visual communication isn't just important – it's essential.

Do you agree? What font can't you stand? 👇🏼✨

♾️ Repost if this would be useful to your network.

Your brain loves shortcuts but great decisions

Your brain loves shortcuts but great decisions | Thinking Clearly and Analytically | Scoop.it
Your brain loves shortcuts but great decisions

live in the questions you slow down to ask.

Shout out to Christian Rebernik for the great visual!

On busy days the amygdala shouts,
“Go with your first instinct.”

Yet neuroscience shows a quick pause to engage
your prefrontal cortex can shift you from
snap‑judgment to strategic thinking.

WHO → WHAT → WHERE → WHEN → WHY → HOW

Pick just one from each circle before your next decision:
• WHO is missing from this conversation?
• WHAT facts am I mixing with opinions?
• WHERE could this choice create problems?
• WHEN would be the wrong time to act?
• WHY might smart people see this differently?
• HOW will I measure true success?

Six questions ➜ six tiny neural speed bumps.

Each one forces your brain to switch from
autopilot to analysis, reducing bias and improving clarity.

Brain‑Based Tip: Say the question out loud.

Vocalizing recruits auditory and language networks,
further slowing impulsive circuits and giving
your PFC the steering wheel.

Today’s micro‑challenge
1. Screenshot the six questions above.
2. Use them in one meeting or email.
3. Notice how the conversation changes.

Better questions build better stories and better leaders.

Which of the six will you try first? | 78 comments on LinkedIn
