I can say with certainty that even after only two weeks of (daily) use I have no regrets trading my Canon 5D MKIII for the Fujifilm X-E2. None whatsoever. This camera is everything I had hoped for when I first bought the X-Pro1.

I took the Fuji X-Pro1 along with the new 23mm f1.4 lens north of the arctic circle to see how they performed at minus 20 degrees.

Everyone knows that the Fujifilm X-Pro 1 is a completely inappropriate camera for focusing in low light conditions, taking picture of action like kids running around, and for making a quality martini....

Overall it was a really fun experience shooting a wedding with the A7r and I will definitely be bringing the Sony A7r to all my weddings from now on... I wish I could just second shoot with someone and use the A7r exclusively but I don’t quite trust it enough to be my main camera in low light scenarios, and of course the native lens selection is limited at the moment...

I recently had the opportunity to own and test the GX7 and G6 at the same time. I found the GX7 to have better picture quality especially at high ISO values. In several ways the GX7 also had better performance. The GX7 received many glowing reviews. The G6 did not even get reviewed by some sites. But I kept the G6 and sold the GX7. I went against the tide again. Why? Same reason, ergonomics and the user experience.

Why am I writing this article? I was talking about cameras with family members recently. The subject of discussion was a Nikon 1 V2 camera. The question was put ..."What kind of camera is that" ? I said "It's a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, not a digital single lens reflex camera, OK" ? They replied..."What are you talking about, we don't understand any of those words".

How does the Sony A7's autofocus compare to the autofocus on the DSLR like the Canon 6D? Well don't sell your pro gear just yet!

Well its fair to say this camera blows me away, I truly am, its fast, light, easy to use but the main thing for me is its ability to produce images I can use and sell to clients. I have gone one step further then just saying to everyone I meet how good it is, I have SOLD yes SOLD my Canon MKII and lenses in favour of using the OMD. Did I expect that when starting out on this journey, no not even close, but I am very glad with the end result.

My main settings for the shoot were Manual mode, SAF with manual focus and ISO200. With the bright low level winter sun and fast moving subjects high shutter speeds were the order of the day. Traditionally I use the Olympus 45mm prime lens as a portrait lens (amazing) but as the skater park was so busy the 90mm equivalent gave me the ideal focal length to capture the action without the risk of getting knocked over.
The DSLR’s status as the “supreme ruler” of all things photography has been around since the beginning of the art form, and even today, that notion sticks.

What do I take from this? I will definitely not stop shooting film – especially black and white is nothing I have seen in digital that would work for me. What I liked about the Sony is that in terms of color, what I saw, pretty much ended up on “the sensor”.

I’ve considered selling Xpro-1 camera so many times.. Originally selling my Leica M8 to get the Fujifilm camera and being so happy with it now for over a year and a half! Sure I miss the Leica quality, magic and the glass – not really. This camera has everything going for it including the magic of high ISO, light weight, fantastic glass and all the updates that Fuji has made available making the camera a fine tuned machine. This camera has near perfect jpeg conversion from RAW built in!

As to whether I would use the lens, it’s absolutely my favourite by a mile. I had all my other lenses with me in Burma, but the 75mm remained strapped to the E-M5 as I made my way around the streets of Yangon, across the plains of Bagan, over Inle lake and up Mandalay Hill. The focus is ultra fast and true including handheld in low light with the lens wide open, the IQ is visibly better than through my other m4/3 lenses and it allows you to achieve genuine shallow depth of field.
