I LOVE my RX1. It has been a revelation shooting with this little beast of a camera. I can’t stress how easy it makes shooting become. It makes something as serious as a high-end fashion shoot feel like a leisure time activity. It makes it easier for me to interact with my models, because everyone is more relaxed and having a blast during the shoot, and it shows in the images.

Being in a closed and quiet environment, you have to be very discreet and unnoticed. The X100S, hanging around the neck, does not draw attention and nobody notices it.

When I find a location that I'm interested in photographing to sell via Stock Photography Picture Library websites, I try to achieve a couple of things. Firstly, if it's somewhere I can get to relatively easily, I will photograph it in a variety of conditions and seasons. Secondly, on a given day when I'm there I'll try to get as many shots from different angles as I can, to produce a series of pictures that I think work well as compositions...

I had a ton of fun doing this shoot and all I needed was right in my home. So if bad weather has got you down as well, I hope I managed to inspire you just a little to look around and make the best of what you got! :)

from Fuji X-Pro1

So this is a first for me, I've never done a gear review before so let's all try and survive this together. :) FujiFilm Canada was gracious enough to send me out a copy of the X PRO 1 as well as the 18, 35 & 60 mm lenses. I'm obviously not going to nerd out completely and do high ISO comparisons and pictures of test charts... Heck, I'd have to go get a tripod for that. I'm just going to talk about my experience with this camera that FujiFilm Canada was generous enough to lend me. As others including Zach Arias and David Hobby have said there is something about these new Fuji cameras. They're not the fastest cameras in the world. They don't have the most megapixels. And they don't have the best high ISO (although it's pretty damn good!) But they do have one thing... soul. The minute I picked this camera up it just felt right. The fact that it's a fraction of the size of my Nikons probably helped but it was more than that. It's hard to describe but it was very close to the feeling I had when I picked up my old Pentax K1000 for the very first time. it just feels good in the hands.....

The lure of mounting a tiny & fantastic Leica-M lens on a (reasonably) tiny & (unreasonably) fantastic Sony A7r is one of the major reasons so many people took the plunge … only to be disappointed by the complexity of the lens compatibility issues on this sensor...

Sony stopped by last week with their their hot new mirrorless camera, the A7R in tow. Even better still, we were given the afternoon to take some shots with it, using their 55mm 1.8 ZA, and the 35mm 2.8 ZA. Right off the bat: we were extremely impressed with the camera itself and both lenses. We shot with both of them wide open at 1.8 and 2.8 respectively.

The conclusion: The new Fujifilm X-E2 is a big jump ahead its predecessor in terms of autofocus and overall responsibility not just on the land, but underwater as well.. And you don't have to worry to put it in aquapac housing :)

I have mixed feelings about writing this post but in the name of public service I feel I must. I hope this doesn't rain on anyones Fuji X-Series parade too too much. I like the system. I like my X100S. If I felt differently I wouldn't use it. At the risk of having an angry Fuji-fan-boy mob show up at my doorstep looking for blood here goes…

Overall, I had lots of fun shooting this race. Especially whenever the guy in the viking costume rode by. Both X cameras held their own, they were really fun to use, and I’m super happy with the feel and mood of my photographs; I think they tell a great story of what happened over at Goose Lake last Saturday afternoon, and that fact shouldn’t be camera dependent.
