August 16, 2013 Although I like HDR as much as the next guy, I still use graduated neutral density (Grad ND) filters often. In the right situations, Grad ND filters give a more natural look and require less software processing once the file is downloaded. I also use straight ND filters to adjust shutter speed when necessary (smooth water, etc.).…

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 is an exciting new camera that will join the OM-D line-up. The more I use it, the more I prefer it to the E-M5, mostly because of its high speed EVF and fast processor, which...

Mark Sparrow's quip that Fujifilm is the 'Apple of the digital photography world' is apt only as it pertains to part of the X system. Apple is a brand builder. Fujifilm, too, is a brand builder insofar as is has designed a few cameras and lenses that attract enthusiast attention, and that are instantly recognisable as part of the X system...

My intention is not to give a comprehensive review of either the NEX-7 or the Fuji X-E2. There are other websites which do a great job of that already. My motivation for writing this post is simply to explain my personal reasons for making the switch between these two mirrorless camera systems. What is important to me may not be what is important to you, and for another photographer, the NEX-7 may be the better choice. So I am not suggesting that either of these two cameras is ‘better’ than the other – just better suited to me personally.

I’ll admit, I’ve known about this for awhile. Fujifilm brought me in the loop a few months ago to test out an early model of the X-T1, and when they showed me what they’d cooked up, I was really excited. They packed some incredible features into the firmware, and in my mind, they addressed all of those little issues I had with the XE-1, and to some extent, the X-E2, although the 2 is a big improvement over the 1.

The new Fujifilm X-T1 is probably one of the most rumoured and leaked cameras we've seen in the past couple of years. We basically knew everything about the camera before the official release, and ...

At the last FujiTuesday, we had the privilege of having early access to Fuji’s latest kit, the 56mm ƒ/1.2, the 10-24mm ƒ/4, and the just announced FUJIFILM X-T1. I had planned to do reviews of FUJIFILM’s lenses, separate from my “Versus” articles so I thought I’d kick things off with the lenses people are clamouring for the most these days. I’ll start with initial impressions, and get into the nitty gritty from a handling perspective, but I won’t go too deep into peeping at pixels as the lenses are still pre-production units. Let’s start.

Today, Olympus announced the new OM-D E-M10, a new Micro Four Thirds camera that finds its place beside the OM-D E-M5 and the OM-D E-M1. Yes, you read that correctly, the new E-M10 is NOT the E-M5 ...

Mary and I have fond memories of using early generation Bowens monolights; they were our first really “good” lighting system that we had when setting up our studio in 1982. We loved shooting with those big, black paint can-shaped 800B monolights because they were inexpensive, dependable and powerful and from what I can tell from my tests of Bowens two-light Gemini 400Rx kit that continues to be the case.

It's no secret, I love the Fuji x100s. As a company that makes cameras and lenses, I'm loving Fuji more and more. Very often we look at cameras we've borrowed, seen at the store and bought and think to ourselves "I'd love if this or that were different/better". What makes Fuji special? They seem to listen to it's customers. Firmware updates are continuously which improve camera performance. Changes are made from one version to another which genuinely improve the cameras and address the things we the customers complain about. Is it going to make everyone happy? No of course not...that will never happen...lets be realists.
