. The king of the proverbial mountain either is too focused on their business or too dismissive of newcomers that are too small to compete, too weird for mainstream adoption or too non-related to their core business. It's why most can't recognize disruption until disruption has already occurred.
Agree and would add if you hear terms such as, "What is the ROI, I'm going to play devil's advocate or Twitter (and therefore social media marketing) is stupid," you are already in trouble, lots of trouble :).

The software I've been building for the past two years, ThinkUp, left beta today. The conversations you have online are worth capturing, keeping, and referring back to over time.
Most startups are not well led--that's the nature of most new business ventures, everyone is learning as they go along. But there are some common best practices to keep in mind, which I describe in this week's episode.
Every American startup entrepreneur tips our berets to the Scoop.it team for making it out of beta on time and under budget AND for creating an "insanely great" thing. Scoop.it ROCKS as I share in this thank you note to some very smart, creative people and the French children I never had :). Thanks Marc. Thanks Guillaume.
Are you thinking about your brand as you build your startup? If not, you should stop everything you are doing right now and pay attention to what I’m about to tell you.

Twitter is an innovative and remarkable information service. While it is amazingly democratic and allows literally anyone to broadcast publicly as a “tweeter,” the core value in today’s Twitter is the amazing flow of curated and customized information that emanates from its crowd-sourced user feeds. Other Internet networks like to keep the user “inside.” Much like Google, Twitter points out to the world. It’s a “discovery engine” and an “information utility” rolled into one.
If you own or produce video, audio, images, documents, apps, or any digital content, DailyDigital allows you to quickly produce an online store to sell and deliver content to anyone, anywhere, on your terms.
Thankful for my friend Derrick Thompson whose creation, Daily Digital, is a cool way for publishers to move some Facebook traffic and, eventually, money out to their blogs. I'm also thankful Derrick has my Hope, Heroes and Startups Technorati article on his home page as that makes writing it feel wonderfully rewarding (not that it wasn't already :).

Thankful for my friend Alan Fitzpatrick, founder of mailVU, the company that is going to put the COOL in the coming online video marketing tsunami. Alan, thought of you many, many times today during the afternoon presentations at Raleigh Internet Summit, find my notes here toward the bottom (and we have to have another lunch soon):
By Angela Haines When starting a company, it’s important to come up with a financial and business plan, a location (in RL or online) and a marketing strategy.
It's no secret that technology is changing the world. Unfortunately, there are a surprising number of people who don't get it. Many of them, even more unfortunately, are important leaders in business, other powerful instutitions, and governments.
Congratulations to my Scoop.it friends. You guys ROCK. Martin (@ScentTrail)!
REAL HEROES SHIP, and boy have you guys SHIPPED! Real startups EXIT to so don't forget to do that as well as you've done everything else :). Marty (@ScentTrail)
Disruption in the health care industry is not going to come from health care providers; it will come from small, scrappy startups. RockHealth Demo Day was a chance to see some world-changing ideas on display.
Interviewing startup entrepreneurs to find the new economy. I've written four profiles and several Hope, Heroes and Startups articles for Technorati. It is fun to have Scoop.it find them via spider.
