Blogging & Content Curation Does Blogging Matter looks at the dissonance between the way we create content (bell curve) and the way content marketing is consumed (power distribution).
This Curagami post shares the natural friction between how we need to create content (in order to learn) and market pressures to improve at a supernatural rate. Content curation is how we bridge the content marketing gap.

Super Forecasting So much of what we are taught or think we know is wrong. LIstening to Super Forecasting after seeing it as the book of the week on Fareed Zakaria's GPS last Sunday I know the folly of our untested ways. The HiPPO (Highest Paid Person's Opinion) Syndrome drives way too many marketing, sales and business decisions.
Super Forecasting was just discussing how WRONG medicine was until just recently. Thankfully bleeding is out of favor, but quakes with strong opinions ruled for a long time.
The web can be like that too. Another favorite point is the longer our forecast look into the future the worse they become. Super Forecasting discusses the weather as a massively non-linear system capable of being changed by a butterfly's wings.
The web is non-linear too. The web's non-linearity is why I like to compare it to weather. Systems brew up, move across the plains and die down. Anyone who tells you they KNOW anything about the web is trying to sell you something.
What we know after making more than $30M online is weather happens NOW. Yes we can forecast or predict, but the only truth is NOW and to the extent we say or act otherwise we are fooling ourselves, our clients and the next generation of web developers and startups..
The next generation of web developers and startups are going to use algorithms like we use CSS and HTML now. They will be NOWISTS and treat the web as what it is - a living almost sentient thing capable of turning on a dime and throwing a tornado at you faster than you can say the word tornado :). Marty

Adding Scoopit Magazines This post shares the easy how and why of adding @Scoop.it "magazines" to your blog or websties. We work with and around a lot of startups. Every startup is so widget focused they have a hard time creating the content marketing needed.
Why is content marketing so NEEDED for startups? Well let's see. Want to get funded? Want to scale? Content marketing can help, but virtually no startup thinks that way.
Every startup we know is so widget focused they can't see forest for trees. Widget focus isn't unimportant, but at some point soon you will need to sell that widget to someone for money. Content is the magic key in that "sell to someone for money" door.
The best return on any startup's content marketing time is to curate content - i.e. leverage brand relevant content from experts. When you don't have time or inclination to create great content you can get more reach and return from finding highly relevant sources (for your business content) and curating them.
Be sure to follow and contribute to those who you curate from too (or your curation can feel like stealing). This Curagami post explains how easy it is to curate content with Scoop.it and then add the magazines you create to your startup's blog or site.

Startup Lessons From A Wolf & A Record Company Peanut Butter Wolf knows what and supports what he loves - aspiring music and musicians. His startup, Stones Throw Records (https://www.stonesthrow.com ), is the subject of an amazing documentary with many #startups lessons including:
* Be in "it" (business and life) for the right reasons (i.e. LOVE not money). * Walk your talk. * Have courage. * Do the right thing.
The record biz is in turmoil. How anyone can make enough money to survive is the issue and the issue isn't resolved. The web is an amazing thing, but it is a wrecking ball too.
The music biz is one of those buildings he wrecking ball hit hard and we aren't sure what is going to be left. Peanut Butter Wolf and Stones Throw Records don't care about any of that. They care about finding, helping and sharing music they love. And they are going to do that come hell or high water.
Great lessons, great film. http://ourvinylweighsaton.com/

Startups Must Read Remember building forts when you where a kid? We all do and thus the power of the universal metaphor my friend and Startup Factory founder Chris Heivly's new book. Chris organize the book around 5 things startup entrepreneurs must do to be successful:
1. Socialize their idea 2. Partner with good and trustworthy people 3. Gather assets close to you 4. Create a collective purpose 5. Build the fort
To say Chris' book is a must read is to be grossly inaccurate. If you are a startup or ever want to become an entrepreneur you must read Build The Fort.

People Marketing shares hard won tips, ideas and stories about loving, curating, listening to your people to create winning online marketing.
We included this link in our Startups Revoluiton Scoop.it because startups are so WIDGET focused they forget PEOPLE provide the context and emotional connection needed to SELL. It is understandable that YOU love your widget, but your customers love THEMSELVES much more.
Creating "like me" moments mean your "product" becomes a movement your customers want to join. This journey from YOU and THEM (customers) to WE is the most important journey every website and all marketing is on whether the creators know it or not.
