Only 140 academic staff at professorial level identified as black, equating to 0.7% out of a total of more than 21,000 professors. Nearly 18,000 or 85% identified as white.

Archives For Black Lives in Philadelphia (A4BLiP) is a loose association of archivists, librarians, and allied professionals in the area responding to the issues raised by the Black Lives Matter movement. The group was inspired by Jarrett Drake, formerly Digital Archivist at Princeton University, and his work to end archives' erasure of Black lives. they have just

Frederick Douglass Newspapers, 1847 to 1874

A new great collection from the library of congress which is free online for all.

The former slave and abolitionist edited a number of newspapers 565 issues of three weekly newspaper titles can be accessed they are: Frederick Douglass' Paper., North Star and New National Era.

All contain features on black civil rights, abolition of slavery,  race relations in the USA and black culture and self-improvement.. There are galleries of selected images and essays and teacher’s resources which set the materials in context. They help students to understand also r the historical context of the language relating to race used in the content which would now be considered outdated and on occasions unacceptable.
