eMedToday's insight:

The last Q&A:

RA: If you could completely redesign the way that doctors and the pharma industry interact what would this look like?

DB: I think we should all be under one umbrella. Somehow there should be a gold umbrella covering industry, doctors and the users of pharmaceutical products.

The best one umbrella is one clincial platform, call e detailiing. One good defination

Use  targeted self- guided e detailing, to quickly give technology smart doctors, at their convenience, creditable, accurate and value added drug, point of care  and CME information and order sample opportunities with a strong focus on multi- media “ fully integrated solution

Any pharma marketers who are guilty of ignoring, instead of embracing, the following themes, are already behind the curve. Larry Dobrow reports on 10 gamechanging ideas in healthcare
eMedToday's insight:

One of key trends which impact e detaling

Reverse orientation—from promotional to service: Expect pharma companies to start moving from “buy this” to “buy this and, hey, let us give you a hand with that.” Companies have realized that their traditional approach needs to be tweaked. “Reps can't just go in [to those conversations], do their spiel and drop some samples. They should give some tools along with the promotion, which will strengthen the relationship to the benefit of the patient,

eMedToday's insight:

The results

To date, studies indicate a good level of acceptance from physicians and positive results for the pharmaceutical company reps.

One study showed 39% of physicians after partaking in a 10 minute eDetail session requested to see a rep and 70% asked for samples. Another showed that after the implementation of an eDetailing programme the product’s market share increased by 10% (against a control group of 3%) which was meaningful as each percentage point equalled $40 million in sales.

A study by Lathian found that doctors participating in two eDetailing sessions increased brand prescribing by 51% more than could be expected by seasonal variance, and a group participating in one eDetail increased brand prescribing by over 19% more than could be expected by seasonal variance.
