Observational and clinical trials have consistently shown that following a Mediterranean diet —particularly one enriched with extra-virgin olive oil—is associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular events. Short-term interventions have also demonstrated beneficial effects on several blood lipid measures. However, evidence on the long-term effects remains limited, especially among older adults at high cardiovascular risk.

Greek Liquid Gold’s dedication to careful reporting on everything from olive oil producers’ stories to agrotourism and food tourism destinations has been recognized internationally. That recognition reaches the very top of the international olive oil world. Jaime Lillo, Executive Director of the International Olive Council, puts it simply: “Over the past ten years, Greek Liquid Gold has made a valuable contribution to raising awareness of olive oil and enhancing readers’ understanding and appreciation of its qualities.”

The International Olive Council plans to align its olive grove carbon credit scheme with European Union rules and integrate it with the E.U. registry by the end of 2028.
