How To Clean Your Arteries With One Simple Fruit

How To Clean Your Arteries With One Simple Fruit | naturopath | Scoop.it

A new study published in the journal Atherosclerosis confirms that pomegranate extract may prevent and/or reverse the primary pathology associated with cardiac mortality: the progressive thickening of the coronary arteries caused by the accumulation of fatty materials known as atherosclerosis

Cottesloe Naturopathic Clinic's insight:

How can something as benign and commonplace as a fruit extract reverse so many aspects of coronary artery disease simultaneously, as shown by this study?  The answer may lie in the fact that our ancestors co-evolved with certain foods (fruits in particular) for so long that a lack of adequate quantities of these foods may directly result in deteriorating organ function...

Study raises questions about dietary fats and heart disease guidance

Study raises questions about dietary fats and heart disease guidance | naturopath | Scoop.it
Dietary advice about fats and the risk of heart disease is called into question in a new article as a clinical trial shows that replacing saturated animal fats with omega-6 polyunsaturated vegetable fats is linked to an increased risk of death...
Cottesloe Naturopathic Clinic's insight:

The evidence has been there for decades, but only recently recovered and analysed from previous studies. The advice to limit saturated fats and increase omega-6 linoleic acid from vegetable oils was wrong - dead wrong! In fact an unbalanced preponderance of omega-6 oils not only increased the risk of cardiovascular disease and coronary artery disease but also the risk of death from all causes. These fatty acids are pro-inflammatory and although needed in small quantities they need to be balanced with omega-3 fatty acids.

The 10 false assumptions of modern science (and how to set science free with new paths to discovery)

The 10 false assumptions of modern science (and how to set science free with new paths to discovery) | naturopath | Scoop.it

Much of modern science remains stuck in an endless inward spiral of false  paradigms. That's why "scientific" medicine, for example, offers no real answers  to the really big diseases: cancer, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer's, and so  on.

Cottesloe Naturopathic Clinic's insight:

Mike Adams looks at the new book by Rupert Sheldrake, "Science Set Free". In this work, Sheldrake investigates how science is prevented from breaking through to a new paradigm by ten false assumptions, including amongst others: that the universe is mechanical, all matter is unconscious and that nature is purposeless with no goal or direction. All of Sheldrake's works have indirectly confirmed the vitalist viewpoint of therapies such as homeopathy...

New analysis of data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), indicates that consuming avocados may be associated with better diet quality and nutrient intake level, lower intake of added sugars, lower body weight, BMI and waist circumferences, higher “good cholesterol” levels and lower metabolic syndrome risk.

Cottesloe Naturopathic Clinic's insight:

Many people probably avoid avocados in the belief that the high fat content will cause weight gain. On the contrary, this study found that those consuming avocados regularly have a lower BMI and significantly smaller waist diameter than non-consumers. They also had a 50% lower risk of metabolic syndrome, the name given to a group of risk factors that together increase the risk of coronary artery disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes...

Eating Walnuts Extends Longevity - Natural Medicine Journal: The Official Journal of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians

Eating Walnuts Extends Longevity - Natural Medicine Journal: The Official Journal of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians | naturopath | Scoop.it

As part of the PREDIMED (PREvención con DIeta MEDiterránea) study, 7,447 older participants (men aged 55–80 years and women 60–80 years) were assigned to 1 of 3 interventions: a Mediterranean diet enriched with extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO), a Mediterranean diet supplemented with mixed nuts, or advice on a low-fat diet (control diet).

Cottesloe Naturopathic Clinic's insight:

The results of this study have shown an effect of any nut consumption on all morbid outcomes in the participants. However, although reduced all-cause and cardiovascular disease mortality were observed among consumers of walnuts and ‘other nuts,’ cancer mortality was only inversely associated with the consumption of walnuts.

Pomegranates and Prostate Health: A Research Report | Prostate Cancer Research Institute (PCRI)

Pomegranates and Prostate Health: A Research Report | Prostate Cancer Research Institute (PCRI) | naturopath | Scoop.it

How well we age is influenced partly by our genetics but even more so by our lifestyle (e.g., eating right, exercising often, and managing stress). Since these lifestyle factors are under our control, we have the ability to influence the outcomes of some chronic diseases, including certain cancers.

Cottesloe Naturopathic Clinic's insight:

The polyphenol antioxidants found in colourful fruits and vegetables can boost the body’s natural antioxidant systems to defend against free radical damage. This antioxidant defence appears to be well suited to prostate cancer prevention, because this cancer develops slowly over the course of decades. Of all the fruits, pomegranates have been shown to promote prostate health, including possible support for prostate cancer risk reduction. This report provides an update on the latest pomegranate prostate medical research. Also see our Perth clinic page: http://www.cottnat.com.au/treatment-of-prostate-conditions-and-men-problems.asp

Doctor Cures Her Multiple Sclerosis With Diet, Abandons Wheelchair - GreenMedTV | naturopath | Scoop.it
Dr. Terry Wahls learned how to properly fuel her body. Using the lessons she learned at the subcellular level, she used diet to cure her MS and get out of her wheelchair.
Cottesloe Naturopathic Clinic's insight:

A truly inspiring story. This doctor was wheelchair-bound with multiple sclerosis and initially sought the best that modern medicine could do for her. After no result she researched the nutrients necessary for brain and mitochondrial function. She decided to get these from diet rather than supplements. Eating three plates or nine cups daily of brightly coloured, non-starchy vegetables and berries, wild salmon, grass fed beef and organ meats and seaweed and avoiding grains, she eventually healed herself completely of her MS. Essentially the hunter-gatherer diet we were all designed to follow! The choice is ours...
