Clare's insight:
Oh dear, "hate" isn't a very nice word...maybe we could say "names people don't care much for"? Referring to this article: http://www.livescience.com/13923-hated-baby-names-america.html And a nitpicking moment: Neveah is not Heaven spelled backwards.

"We name nerds are going crazy at the moment, because the SSA 2012 name data has just been released! Even though I'm from Australia, I have to admit to a real fascination with the SSA data."
Interesting tables of changes in the ranking of names profiled in this blog. Look at Matisse go for both boys and girls!

Which baby girl names made the biggest gains from 2011 to 2012? Which ones suffered the biggest losses? Winners include Harper and Arya. Losers include Chloe and Dulce.
Another way to track changes: by numbers of children rather than rank.

(To stick in my Welsh oar, Arwen is feminine and Arwyn is masculine - for instance, there's a new baby boy Arwyn on the soap opera 'Pobol y Cwm', which I'm sure we all watch.)

A long lost gem with mellifluous vowels, now found more in the realm of fantasy medieval literature.
You know when you hear a really good song and cry out "tuuuune!"? We need an equivalent of that for really good names. "Naaaame!"?

The 2012 names from the Social Security Administration are here! The 2012 names were released yesterday afternoon. Seriously, the day should be a national holiday. Okay. I’m not really serious, but...
I'm quite surprised to find none of Angela's 16 names to watch were in the top 1000 - most are pleasant and not all that unusual. But, as she says, at least we can celebrate that they're underused!
