"Anna Otto of waltzingmorethanmatilda.com scans the night sky for the best names of stars and constellations. But which of them do you think would be usable for a baby?"
It is the end of the financial year in a few days, which means that 2013 is half over, and that you should have your tax return in by now. If you've already done that, then maybe you are looking fo...
Clare's insight:
My favourite new fact is that Odysseus' wife was rescued from drowning by ducks. But there are lots of other interesting things to learn about Penelope, too.

The baby name Kookie was a one-hit wonder in 1959. Where did it come from?
Clare's insight:
"Let's exitville" might just be my new favourite phrase.
"Olympic swimmer and multiple medalist Amanda Beard welcomed her second child with husband Sacha Brown last week. Already parents to a three year old son, Blaise, the couple now have a new daughter. The model mom posted the news on her official website that "Doone Isla Brown was born happy and healthy June 19th at 3:34 p.m.""
Clare's insight:
I'm a bit concerned by the idea of "debuting" a child, but we'll let that pass. Once again, I misread Doone as Donne, which I still think could be a rather good name.
I very rarely comment on celebrity baby names; it's just not a subject for which I feel my opinion is particularly needed (or wanted).
Clare's insight:
So much pun! In a great feat of research as usual, BBN introduces Hugh Dunnet, Norman Conquest, Scott Free, and many more.
We only have a few more weeks until the heir to the throne of England comes into the world—and the book makers are taking bets on everything from the child's
Clare's insight:
I agree with Lisa: Alfred would be pretty exciting.

"Many of you enjoyed Lauren's blog on how she named her four children so much that you expressed the hope that she'd talk about the origins of their middles. So here it is--the meaningful stories behind Oliver Stellan, Leo Isaac, Phoebe Isla and Jasper Dylan."
Clare's insight:
I'm very pleased that Lauren has shared the stories behind her children's middle names, too. I'd like to quote great big poetic chunks, but you might as well just read the thing yourself.

He's a handsome modern favorite with multiple meanings and origins. Now that Kevin and Brian are dad names, what do you think of Devon?
Mamie Eisenhower, wife of Dwight D. Eisenhower, was born Mamie Geneva Doud in 1896 to John and Elivera Doud of Iowa. She was the second of four daughters.
Clare's insight:
Gosh - read the part about her younger sisters. |

"Animal baby names are a fashionable new category, with starbabies named Bear and Birdie and Bunny leading the way. And then there are those animal names that send their messages more subtly, like Lowell, which means wolf, and Paloma, meaning dove. Which would you choose, and why?"
Clare's insight:
Surely not a new category (look at Bunty, Wulfstan, Leo et al.), but perhaps newly-fashionable.
She's an ancient goddess and a modern Olympian. How would Tanith wear on a daughter in 2013?
Clare's insight:
Interesting, I'd always wondered where Tanith came from. You too? Look no further.

Names are so important that a human being can lose his or her life only because of the wrong name in the wrong place.
Clare's insight:
An interesting article by a scholar who set out to write the first modern study of names in Pakistan.
What names would you like to see chosen for the future King or Queen of England? Here are the odds placed on the royal heir of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Place your guesses!
Clare's insight:
Like In Name Only* today, Kara would like to see a Prince (or should that be ætheling?) Alfred. Or Arthur.
The Olympian welcomed her second child, daughter Sterling Diane Falconetti, on Tuesday morning, her rep tells PEOPLE exclusively....
Clare's insight:
Welcome, Sterling!

Clare's insight:
