Mindful Running is meditation on the move. One way to play with present moment/only moment; or breath; or being present with each step.
In Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, he talks about mechanics working on a car with the music playing. One cannot hear the subtle sounds that silence allows one to hear.
So for me I listen to my breath, my footsteps, my movement of arms, legs, torso, watching for what self-talk invades my run. All those subtle cues that I would never hear or be aware of with ear buds blocking out me being present, awake, aware and running intentionally.
