The Best And Worst Rated Health And Fitness Apps For 2016 | mHealth- Advances, Knowledge and Patient Engagement | Scoop.it

ARC from Applause authored this report to help health & fitness brands understand how U.S. customers perceive their flagship Android and iOS app quality. ARC winnowed its initial data pull of nearly 8,000 apps to narrow in on the 65 most popular brands, based on volume of app store feedback (see Figure 2). After crunching approximately 4 million app store reviews, the Applause Health & Fitness App Quality Index is comprised of the brands with more than 10,000 reviews collectively.

Social Media Makes Head-way in Medical Education and Health Care

Social Media Makes Head-way in Medical Education and Health Care | mHealth- Advances, Knowledge and Patient Engagement | Scoop.it
Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn have become ubiquitous for staying in touch, following news, or expanding professional networks. As social media continues to infiltrate health care and medicine, more medical schools and teaching hospitals are helping students, faculty, and other health professionals effectively use these tools.

Earlier this year, the Mayo Clinic partnered with Hootsuite, a social media management platform, to develop a course that covers how digital media influences health care and medicine and helps professionals create online professional profiles.

“[Social media] is the way people are increasingly spending their time,” said Lee Aase, Mayo director of social and digital innovation. “For physicians and other health care providers to meaningfully interact with audiences, they need to be competent in using these tools.”

According to a 2013 ZocDoc survey, 87 percent of doctors between ages 26 and 55 use social media. And a June 2014 MedData Group study revealed 54 percent use social media to support four work goals: monitoring health care news, engaging peers, marketing practices, and offering thought leadership.

The Mayo-Hootsuite course teaches health care professionals how to recognize which digital tool fits each situation and how to use the tools effectively. The course includes modules on different social media platforms, reputation management, recruitment, and management of private patient data, Aase noted. An additional module focuses on how physicians and medical students should conduct and portray themselves online. Physicians and other health care professionals can receive continuing medical education credits for the course through the Mayo School of Continuous Professional Development.
