Forest Park

Forest Park | Leicester | Scoop.it

The Forest Park on Hinckley Rd, Leicester Forest East, isn’t really the sort of place I’d rush to try. Part of the pub restaurant chain Table Table, its menu has the familiar family-friendly staples of burgers, chilli, breaded scampi, “chicken and ribs combo” and so on. You kind of suspect not a lot of cooking as such is done in the kitchen.

I was however intrigued that they are now running a “Best of British” seasonal menu changing every month.

Medical school plan rejected by council

Plans for a £30 million medical school have been rejected by councillors.

The University of Leicester had planned to replace its medical training centre with a six-storey building that would house 1,900 medical students and 450 staff.

The centre would have been built next to Regent College, on land at the corner of University Road and Lancaster Road.

Planning officers had recommended that city councillors approve the plans at a meeting this week, but they rejected it by five votes to four.

We are left out of political debate say new councillors

City mayor Sir Peter Soulsby says backbench councillors are as important as ever – despite complaints that they feel powerless.

Three newly-elected councillors have contacted the Mercury to say that they feel left out of political debate, despite spending the past year or so working towards getting elected. They declined to be named for fear of being disciplined within their party.

Council meetings 'will be broadcast live in future'

Live broadcasting of key council meetings will return – at a reduced cost.

Streamed coverage of the monthly full council meeting and other committees had been in place for three years until April, when the contract with the firm providing it ran out.

The service cost £10,000 a year to provide. Some 1,200 people had tuned in live in the last 12 months the service ran, while a further 5,000 watched archive footage.

'They were just kids playing out what they had seen on the TV'

As the big clear-up began after Tuesday’s troubles in the city centre, Adam Wakelin found a mood of anger and disbelief as shops and businesses picked up the pieces after a night of random violence

It's the morning after the night before on Granby Street. A small army of white van men, glaziers and police scientific support officers are busy boarding or dusting everywhere you look. Toss-a-coin random destruction. Nando's, William Hill, Cecil Jacobs, Poundstretcher and many others attacked. Neighbouring shops and businesses left unscathed.
