Given the limits of the (free) tools I used, I am pretty happy with the results. The technology helped make the poem very different than I would have been as just lines on the page. The animation, and the choice of words that get animated, and the sequencing of animation — plus the audio tracks — really make this a very different kind of poem. While the poem as simple text might stand on its own, outside of the computer screen, the act of giving it a kinetic quality brings the meaning to another level. Or at least, that is my hope as the composer.
They hope to significantly increase the effectiveness of learning experiences, not only learning about the control of emotion but also a general lift in the effectiveness of all learning, through increased focus and attention, whatever is identified as being the ideal mental and physical state for optimal learning. This is ambitious. It’s technology driven metacognition.
I was immediately intrigued by the learning opportunities that FedEx projects might provide in the educational sector. My son, who is currently in Silicon Valley, has indicated that many of the powerful technology-based companies like Google also utilize this “free-time” exploration concept. For example, Google allows employees to spend one day each week to focus on projects important to the individual employee. Interestingly enough, 50% of Google’s products, including Gmail, originated from the 20% time allocation for employees’ “personal passion projects”.
The participatory nature of the web has made it possible to redefine the culture of learning for our students and for ourselves. And professionally, we can participate in collectives to actively engage in professional learning and we can create similar experiences for our students.
In the book Smart Mobs, Howard Rheingold argues: "The mobile internet . . . will not be just a way to do old things while moving. It will be a way to do things that couldn't be done before." In part because of this, he then suggests: "A new kind of digital divide ten years from now will separate those who know how to use new media to band together from those who don't."
The future of mobile gaming will merge the virtual and real worlds. Augmented reality involves mapping virtual objects onto a view of the real world, usually as seen through the screen of a smart phone. The technology has so far been used to create a handful of dazzling smart-phone apps, but has yet to take off in a big way. However, many believe that mobile gaming could prove to be an ideal platform for the technology. With Smart AR, certain real-world objects could become part of a game when viewed through a device such as the PlayStation Portable. This could allow game characters to appear on a tabletop, perhaps, or to respond to the movement of real objects.
Sarah can read very expressively, and it was not only fun to review her writing progress over the years tonight, but also remember together many of the things that have happened since we moved to Oklahoma from Texas five years ago. Without a doubt the most touching essay Sarah read tonight was "Yellow Cards." It made us both cry. In it, she recounts a story about Kent Wilson, who was a member of our church and Sunday School teacher who was very dear to Sarah. It is precious to have this story recorded in her voice, at age 10.

Storyboards are visual representations that aid in the the creation process of digital storytelling. Storyboards lay out images in sequential order to create the the flow of the production. They can also include technical aspects and explanations of design. The following flowchart demonstrates how the basic scenes from a digital story might be organized.
The iPad app allows you to organize your digital textbooks and PDFs by dragging and dropping them into “courses.” Once you open a textbook, you can swipe through the pages or navigate via a filmstrip of thumbnails up top. There is also full text search. Pages can be bookmarked and highlighted. You can also add digital sticky notes which pop out from the margins.
