Back in the Saddle | Creator Network | CBC.ca | Language and Culture | Scoop.it
Food and culture writer Raj Thandhi takes us along on an unexpected journey to discover a part of her Punjabi heritage - equestrian sport and horseback riding. She connects with two riders Vattandeep Singh and Rattan Singh, who left the sport behind in their pursuit of a new Canadian dream, but are slowly making their way back to the saddle.

Vattandeep and Rattan introduce us to their passion project Punjab Equestrian Centre. A riding school, and a safe space for young riders to see themselves represented in a sport that is often lacking in diversity. We get to join Raj as she learns about the history of riding in Punjab, and meets some of Punjabi Equestrian Centre’s ‘future Olympians’

Produced by the CBC Creator Network.

Masrawy Kitchen Brought Egyptian Soul and Culinary Artistry to Women in Music

Masrawy Kitchen Brought Egyptian Soul and Culinary Artistry to Women in Music | Language and Culture | Scoop.it
With a five-course Egyptian feast, Masrawy Kitchen helped turn the Billboard Canada Women in Music gala into a celebration of culture, creativity and shared connection.
Here Magazine's insight:

📰 Why We Chose This Story for Our Top 5 This Week →

This story stood out because it shows how food can carry culture just as powerfully as music. Masrawy’s contribution to Women in Music added a deeper layer to the night. This reminds us that creativity doesn’t only live on a stage. It shows up in the flavours, traditions, and experiences people share, too. It’s a good reminder that cultural expression isn’t one thing, it can take many shapes and forms.

Drimonis: Language issues? Let's ask the guy who speaks more than 20 | Language and Culture | Scoop.it
Steve Kaufmann, a linguist and podcaster, says he's impressed by the level of bilingualism among anglos when he visits his native Montreal.
Here Magazine's insight:

📰 Why We Chose This Story for Our Top 5 This Week →

What stood out in this article is Kaufmann’s belief that language learning is less about obligation and more about falling in love with what a language opens up. In a province where language conversations can feel heavy, Kaufmann's perspective brings us back to the human side of learning a launguage, the teachers who spark something, the cultures that pull us in and the curiosity that keeps us learning at any age.

Americans twice as religious as Canadians, study finds

Americans twice as religious as Canadians, study finds  | Language and Culture | Scoop.it

A new study shows that Americans remain significantly more religious and more open about their beliefs than Canadians.

Here Magazine's insight:

📰 Why We Chose This Story for Our Top 5 This Week →

This story resonated because it reminds us that faith isn’t disappearing, it’s changing shape. Canadians may not speak about religion as freely as Americans, but younger Canadians are showing a renewed curiosity that feels worth paying attention to. It’s a more diverse picture than the old “declining belief” narrative.

Is speaking another language in front of others who don’t understand it rude? Experts are weighing in after a video sparked debate online.
Here Magazine's insight:

📰 Why We Chose This Story for Our Top 5 This Week →

We picked this story because it shows how complicated (and emotional) multilingual life can be. For some, switching languages feels rude; for others, it’s literally second nature. The experts make an important point: language is tied to who we are. And sometimes, the most human thing we can do is talk about it honestly rather than jumping to assumptions.
