New! Digital Citizenship Song and Video

New! Digital Citizenship Song and Video | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Something you may not know about us here at Common Sense Media, is that quite a few of us are former classroom teachers! When we develop new materials, we always have our favorite memories to guide us. One thing we remember fondly is being amazed by how music transformed a classroom – kids would jump to their feet, whatever the song, to sing and sway while the teacher subtly wove word play and pattern recognition into the mix.

This summer, we worked with a great animator and composer to create our first digital citizenship song for elementary students!

What is the Definition Of Digital Citizenship?

What is the Definition Of Digital Citizenship? | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

"As more and more students interact digitally–with content, one another, and various communities–the concept of digital citizenship becomes increasingly important. Which begs the question: what is digital citizenship?"

Via EDTECH@UTRGV
Karina Marin's curator insight, January 30, 11:35 AM
Digital citizenship is the practice of engaging responsibly and respectfully within digital communities, influencing the ecology of online content through positive habits and actions. It emphasizes the importance of empathy, critical thinking, and supportive interactions to enhance the digital experience for all users.

When kids are skilled navigators of our networked world | NetFamilyNews.org

When kids are skilled navigators of our networked world | NetFamilyNews.org | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
I predict that, when the discourse about youth & new media is less about fear and control and more about literacy, a learning renaissance will be unleashed.

We all – young people and everybody who works with them – are learning what that looks like: skilled navigation of a networked world. We’re also working out what the skills are, how to teach them and what kind of environment (home, school and media environment) support that learning.

As a society, we’ve only just begun working the problem. The first 15 or so years of the public discussion about youth Internet safety has been much more about protecting children from new media than about helping them learn to navigate it successfully (including safely).

Sugata Mitra: Computers don't make children antisocial

From working with children and the internet for the past 15 years, I have learnt that it can be as harmful as we want it to be. If a child is alone with the internet, and no one else is around, the web can be a deadly, subversive, filthy and perverse place. The internet is our collective consciousness and human consciousness is not always pretty.

Welcome to the DigiLit Leicester Framework project!

What is DigiLit Leicester?

Leicester City Council’s Building Schools for the Future Programme is working in Partnership with De Montfort University on the DigiLit Leicester Project – the development of a Digital Literacy Framework for secondary level school staff.

The Digilit Leicester project is designed to ensure school staff and learners are getting the most from the significant investment in technology being made across the city, and that schools are able to make best use of technology to meet their aspirations for transforming educational provision. It will help schools make sure every learner attending a BSF Programme school benefits not only from a school with world-class technology provision, but from an education that is supported and enhanced by the use of technology to raise achievement and aspiration, connect communities and open opportunities.
