With ever-growing audiences, social networks have become a great place to share things with your friends, meet new people and find new and interesting things to do, both on and offline.
However, social networks can be dangerous places to share information, particularly if you are careless about the data you provide on your profile without the proper safeguards in place. Take This Lollipop plays on the fact that many people underestimate the power of social networks and the information that can be obtained from them, connecting to your Facebook account to play through a scene where a creepy man spying and tracking you."
I didn't try this because, well, you have to allow it to access your facebook, and if it is trying to warn me about what I share, should I share that access to find out?
permanent beta, movement to mobile, people of the screen who want control over how they use, share and create media, the movement from ownership to access anywhere, fragmentation, aggregation curation, value shifting from distribution to attention
"In a totally networked and always-on society, skills, creativity, curation, filtering and expert-ship will be more important than ever before - and if we keep our eyes on what the 'people formerly known as consumers' really want rather than follow our own assumptions and outmoded orthodoxies, the media business has a great future." FreeMind is a premier free mind-mapping software written in Java. The recent development has hopefully turned it into high productivity tool. We are proud that the operation and navigation of FreeMind is faster than that of MindManager because of one-click "fold / unfold" and "follow link" operations.

You make data. A lot of it. From Web browsing to link sharing to photos published online, from phone bills to medical records to online banking - almost all of us produce an incredible amount of electronic data that slips right through our fingers...
Here's What Went Live 10/19 In case you didn't see it: Very exciting!
Singly 1.0 began rolling out to developers Oct. 19, 2011
****Those first users will be able to build apps that search, sort and visualize contacts, links and photos that have been published by their own accounts on various social networks but also by all the accounts they are subscribed to there.
****Want to search the contents of every link shared by every person you're subscribed to on Twitter (at least as far back as Singly can access)?
****Want to make a slideshow of all the Instagram photos your contacts have posted that have a certain hashtag in them? Or were on a weekend? Or whatever other criteria you can think of? Those kinds of things are possible now.
Aveu de faiblesse ? Google+ a finalement décidé de ne plus envoyer d'avertissements et de ne plus bloquer les comptes des utilisateurs qui persistent à utiliser un pseudonyme. Une information dévoilé...
Another free tool for collecting data, organising and displaying it, then sharing and embedding.
From the site: "Junar is a platform that allows users to track and search for data all around the internet in one place. Go to www.junar.com and give it a try, its for free. Change they way you search, track and use data forever."

Public hangouts, organized in categories like Technology, Entertainment, Art, Business.
These hangouts will continue to live forever, even if no-one is in the hangout. So just hang around a bit if no-one is there, and you will soon get company.
S’organiser et surtout respecter les divers plannings que l’on peut mettre en place sur quelques post-it collés sur le frigo n’est pas toujours chose facile. On les oublie vite et soyons franc, ce n’est vraiment pas la meilleure des solutions.
Robin Good: Probably one of the best researched, best produced and most informative video clips about content curation I have seen so far.
If you are wondering whether curation could be useful for you or for your organization this video will help you understand better what this new discipline is all about.

The wisdom of crowds, the insanity of crowds.
Mention the word “network” to most people and their reactions tend to sway between these two polar extremes.
****It’s either “crowdsourcing is the answer to everything” –
****or it’s a complaint that social networks like Facebook and Twitter are just “too full of chatter.”
If I have one takeaway from the GEO/Monitor Group conference on Networks earlier this week, it’s about how crucial the curator is in determining the difference between a successful network and one that simply makes lots of noise.
Disrupting Business as Usual
This insight hit home for me when serial entrepreneur Lisa Gansky talked about innovative businesses like CouchSurfing (http://www.couchsurfing.org/), Zipcar, and AirBnB.
Thanks so much for including this in your collection! The post is from a series of guest posts covering a conference - Growing Social Impact in a Networked World.
@Beth Kanter - I found the post, went to dinner, came back and put the final touches on it to tweet tomorrow. I can't believe I never saw this when you originally posted it. That just goes to show you how important it is that we have each other. It's impossible to see everything. Thanks for your kind words and your amazing curation!
While still very early in its evolution and application, Siri is collecting a monster database of human behavior. Siri goes beyond “need” to “intent” – not what somebody wants, but why.
Call it technographic, call it behavioral or call it semantic – whatever the term, Apple, not Google or Microsoft, may be ushering in the era of Web 3.0 and language-based search (and with it, capturing the ad dollars that will surely follow.)
From the article intro: The success of social networks and the move to socialise many others aspects of the web – from content and search to deals and commerce – has captured the imagination of analysts, content creators and brands. Those best positioned to monetise these changes, however, are developing strategies that extend beyond social networks built on who-knows-who to those built on shared interests: so-called "communities of interest".
"It's no longer just social media that's social any more – all media is becoming social thanks to the maturation of creative tools and digital distribution," says Troy Young, president of SAY Media.
Technology has democratised publishing. This, in turn, has resulted in a new breed of media businesses that see themselves more as curators of content rather than owners.
New technology is creating new opportunities to socially interact and is also enabling end users to become their own content curator...
