L'écriture Web sous l'éclairage des Web analytics | Web and ... | information analyst | Scoop.it

Your Brain on Facebook : Bigger Social Networks Expand the Size of Neural Networks: Scientific American | information analyst | Scoop.it

"A recent study showed that certain brain areas expand in people who have greater numbers of friends on Facebook."

"There was a problem, though. The study, in Proceedings of the Royal Society B, was unable to resolve the question of whether "friending" plumps up the brain areas or whether people with a type of robustness in brain physiology are just natural social butterflies.'

"But with the help of a few monkeys in England, teenagers everywhere may now have more ammunition to use against parents.'

Khan Academy Receives $5 Million to Accelerate the Reinvention of Education

Khan Academy Receives $5 Million to Accelerate the Reinvention of Education | information analyst | Scoop.it

Whilst there may be some justifiable concerns about the place of Khan Academy in the learning ecosysem, it has a vital role to play. It is accessed by hundreds of thousands, if not milllions.. Additional funding means it can expand its reach to include arts and humanities in addition to its core STEM resources. Smarthistory is a good example of how this can work: http://smarthistory.khanacademy.org/

"Much as Wikipedia draws its content from a large number of volunteer professionals, the curated content system for Khan Academy will look to provide a similar outlet for dedicated professionals to develop quality instructional content."

How Algorithms and Editors Can Work Together To Get Users Clicking On Content That Matters | Mashable

How Algorithms and Editors Can Work Together To Get Users Clicking On Content That Matters | Mashable | information analyst | Scoop.it

In March, Eli Pariser gave a popular TED talk about “filter bubbles”.

Pariser is concerned that web personalization is only showing us content we "like," and not content we need.

As users increasingly get their news from curated social channels, this trend has the potential to isolate us and damage our world view.

But he proposed some solutions at the Mashable Media Summit.

Pariser pointed out the critical things that social personalization gets wrong when it comes to content:

- Anticipation...

- Risk Taking...

- Big Picture...

- Pairing...

- Social Importance...

- Mind-Blowingness...

- Trust...

In his talk, Pariser noted that nearly every major online media company and platform is moving toward some level of personalization....
