Your whole life, reduced to a single number. That’s the goal of an increasing number of companies that are attempting to analyze specific aspects of your life and quantify certain behaviors with a single score. The best known of these companies is Klout, which promises to quantify your Twitter and Facebook behaviors into a single measure of "online influence." By some estimates, over 100 million people now have Klout scores - whether they know it or not. And with the recent popularity of Klout, new scorekeepers are emerging as well, such as the FICO Medication Adherence Score that tells health care insurers how likely you are to take your prescribed medicine and Identified, which gives employers a single measure of how "in demand" you are as a professional. An interesting play on words ... clout vs Klout. It's so easy to count your social connections when those connections are made via technology. This basic question, "What's your number?" could be presented to 8th-9th graders at the start of a number theory unit and revisited throughout the unit.

"Dunkin’ Donuts’ inspiring “happy life and work” mantra—America Runs on Dunkin’ – has carried seamlessly throughout the company’s traditional and viral advertising campaigns, reaping the benefits of a stable positive net sentiment throughout the year.
A clever model on how a brand can sustain positive sentiment, the company is an exemplary case study in linking a dedicated social media strategy to social ROI. With its “green” policy and a social responsibility standard, Dunkin’ Donuts has a long history of donating to U.S. servicemen and women. To honor this Veterans Day, for example, the company will be donating to the USO." Via Steven L. Johnson
Startup successes don't always start as such. Last week, we launched Scoop.it publicly, which means our private beta was a success with strong traffic and continuous growth. But as it’s been a difficult ride, I felt like sharing the story, our story, of how it all started. Though we're still far from victory and there's a million things than can go wrong, it may give a bit of hope to some entrepreneurs in need of faith. Two weeks ago today, Google released “Ripples” for Google+ and most of the world went on with their daily activities. Personally I thought it was just another one of those features that was interesting but nothing I could really use. That was until this Whiteboard+ video which I filmed with Rand. Both Rand and I were blown away at the amount of data a Ripple gives you and what you can do with it.
What is a Ripple
The definition of a “ripple effect” is: a spreading effect or series of consequences caused by a single action or event. When it comes to Google+ a Ripple is an interactive diagram that shows how a Google+ post spreads as it’s shared by users. You can find the Ripple of any public post using the dropdown to the right of the post... Via Martin Gysler

WebProNews interviewed Kate Brodock, the Executive Director of Digital and Social Media at Syracuse University about critical elements of successful content curation on the web.
From her replies:
a) In the verification process
...proper attribution of the original content creator is very important.
There are many ways to do this on various platforms, and there are generally recognized “best practices” that people use.
If you neglect the attribution part of the equation, this is when you get into sticky situations (no matter what your expert lawyer has told you).
...It pays to take a look at how each platform handles this aspect of curation and make sure you’re dotting your “I”s and crossing your ‘t’s.”
Right on the mark. 8/10 Via Robin Good

Goes right to your previous post about good/bad curation. How much is the curator vs the platform? What is the best way to give attribution (a link or a link with name/organization)?
The last bit about how the end reader feels about attribution was interesting as well. “In your opinion, how much does it matter to the consumer if they’re obtaining information from its original source, as long as that source is credited? Consumers want information, and that means different things to different people. Many consumers are only concerned about the information they receive and being able to process it quickly because they’re reading these sites simply as a way to quickly digest information and move on. Other consumers may want to dig deeper, explore more sources, get to the original source and expand their body of information. And others still may actually NEED to have the original source for verification purposes or if they’re conducting research or writing an article. This depends on what type of consumer you are.”
