Do we need an Information Diet?

Via @gdecugis

This makes me want to read the book and know more.

Clay Johnson seems to make an interesting parallel between the way we consume information today and the way we sometimes overconsume food. Leading to obesity and other health consequences.

Are curators the chefs of the "nouvelle cuisine" of information?

(Thanks to @Charles_Liebert for sharing it with me!)

Hi Beth & Robin,
Beth, I'm going to read the piece on "information coping skills" immediately as well. Robin, I can't wait to see what you come up with, it sounds great, would love to hear more about this......

Hi Robin,

Closing the loop here. I purchased this book and finally read it the last week. It is excellent and brilliant. Here's my review: http://www.bethkanter.org/info-diet/ The framing is great. And, there is a chapter that talks about content curation, only he calls information literacy.

YouTube reinvents itself with massive relaunch focusing more on filtering and curation | GigaOM

YouTube reinvents itself with massive relaunch focusing more on filtering and curation | GigaOM | information analyst | Scoop.it

YouTube is rolling out one of its most ambitious redesigns since its launch in 2006 this Thursday afternoon, putting channels front and center in an attempt to become the Internet’s answer to cable TV.

The new design features a completely revamped home page that focuses on a user’s video subscriptions and pulls in video recommendations from social networks like Facebook and Google+.

The pages of video publishers are also getting a significant face lift, emphasizing the notion of subscribing to channels and focusing more on filtering and curation. “Curators are going to be be really great for organizing this massive amount of content that YouTube has”.

Some of the highlights of the new design include:

- The overall design is closely aligned with the visual changes on other Google properties, including Google+ and GMail.
- The home page features a kind of activity stream that includes video uploads, likes and favorites, comments as well as announcements for upcoming live events.
- Users can pin up to ten of their favorite channels on YouTube’s homepage...

- Registered users will be able to choose from four default templates for their own channel pages...

Google+ Hangouts Now Offer Free Voice Calls

Google+ Hangouts Now Offer Free Voice Calls | information analyst | Scoop.it
Google+ is rolling out a feature that allows its users to make free conference calls within Hangouts.

That said, you no longer need a Google account or even a computer to join the conversation. A Hangout group can now call in anyone with a phone to listen in. This could not only lure more people to Google+ and grow its user base, but also has potential to revolutionize the way both party lines and conference calls are conducted — from holding meetings to making plans with friends and family.
