I love paradox, as anyone can tell from the name of the research center that I run with John Seely Brown in Silicon Valley – the Center for the Edge. Paradox is basically a puzzle, often juxtaposing two elements that...
This post by John Hagel goes under the category of "Thinking better about biz storytelling."
Sharing stories builds trust. This is a wonderful thing. But as John shares, it's a double-edge sword. Here's the paradox the author discusses: "In a nutshell, here’s the paradox. Everyone thinks that trust is important. Yet, at the same time, trust in individuals and institutions is eroding."
What does this mean to you as you share your business stories? "It turns out that the very practices that helped us to build trust in the past are now contributing to the erosion of trust," says Hagel.
He then discusses new approaches to building trust: vulnerability, will, being forward-looking, and others.
This article is a must read to be able to respond to today's always shifting business landscape. And so can more consciously work with your stories to keep you successful.

Amazingly, it’s been nearly two and a half years since I first published my Local Search Ecosystem infographic back in October 2009. With the 2012 conference season kicking off in earnest with SearchFest on Friday and SMX West on Monday, I thought it was high time for an update.

Robin Good: Critical thinking is a key strategic skill needed by any serious professional curator.
"Critical thinking provides the keys for our own intellectual independence..." and it helps to move away from "rashy conclusions, mystification and reluctance to question received wisdom, authority and tradition" while learning how to adopt "intellectual discipline" and a way to express clearly ideas while taking personal responsibility for them.
Key takeaways from this video:
Critical thinking refers to a diverse range of intellectual skills and activities concerned with "evaluating information" as well as our own thought in a disciplined way.
Highly recommended for all curators. 9/10

Thank you for sharing this video and the importance of critical thinking. It is so easy to get into the mindless consumption trap and making ourselves slow down, read, think, question, and seek is so important. It is all about the resisting the urge to click, but to hit the pause button and make yourself think

Grazie come sempre, Robin! You always share valuable information and this video is a great source to reflect on the importance of critical thinking to refine thought processes when curating content. Content curation certainly requires and develops "better thinking".

Critical thinking is a key component in addressing autonomous adversity and the need to collaborate in decision making.
Earlier in February, news broke that social network LinkedIn was buying Rapportive, a company that makes a Gmail add-on for contacts. On Wednesday Rapportive made it official and announced the news on its company blog.
...When it comes to delivering audio-visual content to a wide audience, the Internet has lowered the barriers to entry so far that anyone with even the dinkiest camera can become a major broadcaster. The television industry may face a crisis of overhead when a large number of scrappy upstarts deliver comparable value with almost no fixed costs. Also, there are some aspects of the television business that the Internet simply does better, specifically when it comes to reaching an audience. So there is the scent of blood in the water, and out of the resulting frenzy a few lessons have appeared. Here are four of them. - There doesn’t have to be a difference between a “channel” and a “show.”... - Marketing and distribution are often the same thing... - Television is no longer that different from publishing... I'm working with a customer right now that's got ambitions to change (more like extend) its business model around data. It's not quite 'Big Data' yet, but it may very well get there fast (since we're paving the road map by introducing data warehouse, search-oriented indexing, business intelligence, and cloud services/technologies fairly rapidly). Today most of the Big Data early adopters are big companies. I'm deliberately omitting social web start ups who, of course, need to think in Big Data terms from the get-go. Many small companies need guidance on how they can expand their data business models. They don't necessarily know how to and that nowadays they can leverage Big Data processing in the cloud cheaply and that the required skills are learnable and teachable. The majority of "small business" developers though still find this Cloud and Big Data stuff rather esoteric. They need to evolve or they'll fail miserably to remain relevant in this fast-changing industry. - Vin.
