With digital technology being implemented in classrooms more than ever before, students have access to so many exciting new tools and applications, with ‘Kahoot’ being one of these! Kahoot is a digital medium which provides students with exciting games, quizzes and many more opportunities to enhance their knowledge! It is super simple and free to everyone! When I was in school, I always found Kahoot not only fun and engaging, but also very beneficial to my education. It was often used at the beginning of the lesson to test students recall of information and displays instant results after each question. This platform is easy, joyous and educational for both educators and students, and I will definitely apply this tool into my future teaching practice.

Having Kahoot for homework would be a great idea to incorporate for engagement. I'm sure the kids will like to compete with their peers and at the same times challenges them as they learn.

On my practical placement, I witnessed my mentor teacher use kahoot with her grade 8 class and for those 10 minutes I could not wipe the smile off my face and thought, this is why I am here. The students were engaged, they loved it and the teacher got an idea of if the class understood a concept or if they needed more work on it. While it does not promote higher order thinking I do think there is a place for it within the classroom. ![]()

This resource provides video tutorials and step-by-step instructions for building "blind" Kahoot quizzes that could be very effective in teaching new content.

An interesting teaching tool that can be used as a way of garnering interest in a topic. The tool doesn't seem that hard to use and looks like it is appropriate for teaching all ages. I might just use this when I myself begin teaching.

Quizizz makes quiz-based learning fun by adding gamification, making this a useful teaching tool! Quizizz is player-paced while Kahoot’s pace is determined by the teacher or host.

Loving the sound and looks of Kahoot. It's a platform that allows teachers to create interactive quizzes and polls. It also allows students to create quizzes and share them with the class. It is versatile and engaging with music, pictures, interactive elements and bright colours. Kahoot doesn't just substitute for paper and pen quizzes. It transforms a learning space because it can make assessments interactive and fun. Students and teachers get instant feed-back on answers, and can compare how they are scoring up against the whole class. Teachers can also assess students according to the quizzes students create, which display their breadth and accuracy of knowledge. In my learning sequence I am particularly interested by the concept of creating Kahoot polls. Students and teachers can create their own polls, and use these pools to make decisions during collaborative learning spaces in the classroom. Students learn about making fair decisions. On a side note: Creating polls, and acting on decisions made according to surveys of opinion show students the power behind collecting data. Students begin to see how real-life decisions are actually made based on surveys of human opinion, and learn the usefulness of data collection. This is a good foundation to understanding the financial side of social media and it's emphasis on collecting and selling personal data. ![]()

I see you’ve found the joy that is Kahoot too! I explored this early in my prac placement when I wanted to add a little flair to my warm-up tasks. I had done a few short pen and paper quizzes with my class with varying levels of enthusiasm with some students not even participating without ongoing support / attention. However, when I asked everyone outside to bring their phones into the class with them, I had immediate attention and curiosity among the class. Kahoot made almost every aspect of the quick quiz task easier; from engagement and participation to checks for understanding and timekeeping.
From the success of this I moved away from simple warm-up quizzes (to check understanding / focus students) and moved into something you may want to consider also; actually introducing new topics with Kahoot. Still in the form of multiple choice questions, this idea saw the students answering questions they most likely didn't know the answers to but might infer the correct answer from prior knowledge and question deconstruction. As you could imagine when the answer graph came up after everyone answered there were some very interesting results which sparked some amazing conversations with the class. Using Kahoot in this manner gave my class the opportunity to explore complex concepts together and really worked to level the playing field, giving every student a chance to contribute. My favourite scenario come from using a question with multiple correct answers and hearing the students reasoning behind why their answer was more correct! ![]()
