Google Unveils FIDO U2F Security Key Support

Google Unveils FIDO U2F Security Key Support | GooglePlus Expertise | Scoop.it

Here is a short summary of the main differentiators between U2F security keys and traditional smart card- and hardware-based authentication devices:

No need for drivers, client software and middleware – Uses native drivers and built-in support directly into the browser. No installation, no configuration – just works !Highly scalable while protecting your privacy - Generates a new set of encryption keys for every service, that is only stored on the specific service it connects to. With this approach no secrets are shared among service providers, and even low-cost security keys can support any number of services.Great user experience – To register and authenticate, all it takes is a simple touch of a button!

Why Google+ is the place for passions

Why Google+ is the place for passions | GooglePlus Expertise | Scoop.it
The single biggest controversy about social media is whether Google+ is a dying wasteland of non-activity or a hive of conversation and engagement. Mike Elgan is here to explain why it's the latter.
Jaana Nyström's insight:

"The Twitter people come to Google+ looking for Twitter type engagement, but they don't find it. Likewise, the Facebook people come looking for Facebook-like engagement (family and friends) and don't find it.

It's like a Chinese tourist going to France looking for Chinese food and concluding that the food in France is terrible. Or a Hawaiian surfer bringing her surfboard to New York City and, finding no waves, concluding that there's nothing to do in Manhattan..."

Stephanie Mattioli's curator insight, October 13, 2014 10:54 AM

I came across this article on my Home Feed and thought it was a brilliant way to gather some information around the mysterious social platform, Google+. I will admit that prior to the article I was extremely intimidated by Google+. None of my friends had accounts- or at least ones that they spoke of on a frequent basis- but many of my favorite brands were present on this social platform. As a marketing student, I do believe that I should be as well versed on all current social networking sites as possible. I found this article, Why Google+ is the place for passions, by Mike Elgan and knew the time had come to understand and accept Google+ for exactly what it is.

Let me first clarify: every social media platform is different.  The engagement and use for each networking site is tailored to their direct audience. Elgan claims that “Twitteristas and Facebook folks” do not understand Google+ because they are expecting the platform to have similar engaging content as that of Twitter or Facebook. Frankly, it just not going to happen.  I consider Google+ to be a mixture of Pinterest with more sharing and connecting capabilities. Elgan presents the idea that Google+ is a platform where you can openly share your passion and receive a deeper discussion with those in your circle about it. You can also video chat and message others internationally who have your same passions as well. I have always felt that Facebook and Twitter have a superficial element. You can have as many friends as you would like on these platforms but the ability to share and engage with them is on a surface level. Google+ appears to provide a deeper passion behind content, which is definitely something I am more concerned with.

After reading this article I immediately created a Google+ account. Let’s see if Mike Elgan is right about this platform…

GooglePlus Helper: Photos update in Android 5.0 Lollipop

GooglePlus Helper: Photos update in Android 5.0 Lollipop | GooglePlus Expertise | Scoop.it

With the launch of Lollipop, the Google+ Photos app will replace the Gallery app for the following Nexus devices: 4, 5, 6, 9 and 10.
Users do not need a Google+ account or sign-in into Google+ in order to use the Photos app.

Why the change? As you know, Google is continually improving the experience on Google+ Photos, and now for Nexus users, they’re consolidating photo viewing and managing to a single app for a better photos experience, plus some additional features, such as Auto Backup, if users choose to sign in to Google+.

Gallery app is available only for devices running Android 4.2 to 4.4. If your device is running Android 5.0 or higher, use the Photos app to manage your photos.

12 of the best new features in Android Lollipop

12 of the best new features in Android Lollipop | GooglePlus Expertise | Scoop.it

Google’s approach for rolling out the latest version of Android, Lollipop, is a little different. There are the usual things we see every year — a new Nexus phone and a new Nexus tablet — but instead of a big event, the company is posting details in blog posts and on the main Android site.

So if you’re tracking the rollout closely, you probably have a sense of what’s new and what’s cool in the OS. If you’re not, though, getting a sense of what Lollipop is actually like and what it actually does isn’t easy.

I'm in, are you? This link is an invitation, too:

http://www.tsu.co/JaanaNystrom

Lindsay Eikenberg's curator insight, October 27, 2014 4:07 PM

The article discusses a new social media platform Tsu (pronounced Sue), which actually pays users for their posts. Payment is accumulated through an algorithm based upon who you get to join the network, your friends, and the engagement your post creates. Reviews of the platform look at it as beneficial because no other social media sites pay you for your posts. Tsu makes each and every post under your personal ownership. On the flip side, those who are members seem to posting anything and everything, without giving much thought or insight. Along with this, many are on their best behavior, being nice to everyone and becoming friends just to help with their payments.

It seems to me that recently a ton of social media platforms seem to be popping up than ever before. In no time, there will be so many to choose from that no one will become the next big thing. As I have said before, I think it will be hard for any new platform to compete with the ones already out there (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). These have been around for so long and have so many users that it will take something big to really gain any sort of market share in the social media world. While I am sure that people would love to get paid for their posts, I just don’t think the pay is large enough to bring large numbers of people over. On top of this, it just seems a little fake to me. Of course people are going to post as much as possible to get more money. I wouldn’t want to read stuff that people are posting that is uninteresting just so they can make a few cents.

Jaana Nyström's insight:

Combined, there are a litany of ways to compose, style, and organize a social media update, even in just the words we use in our updates.

Scott Grodofsky's curator insight, October 26, 2014 3:47 PM

This article is about How to write a social media update. The Social media websites that they talk about is Facebook, Twitter and Linkdin. The one for facebook that I thought was really helpful was put everything on different lines. It is better to put everything on different lines so everyone can read it and it is more clear. Clarity is very important with writing updates. The update that stood out for me on Twitter is alway using lowercase. I find that interesting that it helps if you make everything lower case. Finally the most important social media for new employees is linkdin. I find it very helpful to put everything on separate lines. Which I agree with from the article. The clearer you are on linkdin the better you sound to an employeer.
