About the size of APS-C and full-frame lenses

About the size of APS-C and full-frame lenses | Fujifilm X Series APS C sensor camera | Scoop.it

One of the advantages, often put forward, of APS-C cameras like the Fujifilm X and that they are less bulky.

But is it so certain?

The size must take into account not only the camera itself but also the lenses.

So let's see what it is for these.

There's Nothing Magical About Medium Format Depth Of Field

hpc's insight:

In a way, this video, and the comments, show that "there is nothing more practical than a good theory" (from memory, the original quote is from Henri Poincaré). The equivalences put forward are attested from the point of view of optics.

I wonder why the question is periodically asked again. Or more exactly if it is well asked. It seems to me that the origin of the confusion on the subject has different reasons:

- Manufacturers are not very clear, I seem to remember that Fujifilm, after selling the advantages of APS-C, adopted an ambiguous communication when launching its medium format range.

-Photographers (not to mention their cognitive bias) tend to have a global understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of the different formats.

In fact the question seems to me to be more about the quality of the renderings. In this respect, the rendering of a full format (with the reservations that this denomination calls for in the case of digital cameras) seems more "aesthetic" on a full format than on an aPS-C as far as the extremes are concerned. As such, we can note that in the video, the erndu of the full format is smoother than that of 'lAPS-C; the spots of light ("bokeh") are smoother. However, because of the lack of an objective measurement of this phenomenon, the exchanges on the subject remain at the level of poorly documented comments.

Quick Review - Viltrox 13mm f1.4 - Hitting Fuji where it hurts!

Quick Review - Viltrox 13mm f1.4 - Hitting Fuji where it hurts! | Fujifilm X Series APS C sensor camera | Scoop.it

This is an affordable option for the Fuji 16mm f1.4. I sold my 16/1.4 because it couldn’t compete with the cheaper and more portable 18mm f2. And after the 16mm f2.8 was released there was no way I could justify the money just to get that f1.4 aperture. Enter the Viltrox 13mm f1.4. It might not be as sharp (my guess), but its wider and less than half the price. Perfect for a specialized lens that in my case wouldn’t get much use.
