There are drainage holes in each of the boots so that excess water can escape after watering. A power drill was used to drill four or five 1/4 inch holes through the soles and then another hole on the backside of the boot at the top so the boot can be hung on the fence using a cup hook. A nail hammered into the fence on a slant to prevent the boot from slipping off would work well too.
