nicoleta susanu's insight:
Scope: Europe urgently needs more innovators to stay competitive in the coming decades and to spur economic growth. The large number of well-educated women who, for various reasons, including lack of awareness, do not consider entrepreneurship as an option, represents a tremendous untapped pool of innovation. Awards have a strong potential to drive innovation through the recognition of achievements and the promotion of role models. Therefore, the European Commission created in 2011 a Prize for Women Innovators to increase public awareness of this issue and to encourage women to exploit the commercial and business opportunities and become entrepreneurs. The Commission will award up to three "EU Prize for Women Innovators" and one "Rising Innovator Award" (female innovators - aged 30 years or under - at the start of their careers) following a European-wide contest.

European Commission - Event - Info Day, Horizon 2020 – 'Health, demographic change and wellbeing'
nicoleta susanu's insight:
Horizon 2020's Societal Challenge 1 (Health, demographic change and wellbeing) will be presented during the Health Information Day on 8 December 2017 in Brussels.
Strengthening synergies between Horizon 2020 and the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) is about building meaningful interactions between investment strategies and interventions as a way to have significant impacts on the economy
nicoleta susanu's insight:
The Seal of Excellence is the high-quality label awarded to projects submitted to Horizon 2020 which were deemed to deserve funding but did not receive it due to budget limits. It recognises the value of the proposal and supports the search for alternative funding.
The Seal of Excellence Certificate rewards unfunded H2020 proposals which were above this quality threshold with a high-quality label and the Seal of Excellence holder can then approach alternative regional, national, private or public funding sources. In addition, it helps interested funding bodies willing to invest in promising proposals (including national & regional authorities through European Structural & Investment Funds) to identify these projects more easily.

EUROPA - The EU supports entrepreneurs, businesses with business loans, government grants, microfinance and equity funding.
nicoleta susanu's insight:
EU Funding is available for all types of companies of any size and sector including entrepreneurs, start-ups, micro companies, small and medium-sized enterprises, and larger businesses. A wide range of financing is available: business loans, microfinance, guarantees and venture capital. The decision to provide EU financing will be made by the local financial institutions such as banks, venture capitalists or angel investors. Thanks to the EU support the local financial institutions can provide additional financing to businesses. The exact financing conditions – the amount, duration, interest rates and fees – are determined by these financial institutions.

This guide is intended to provide experts with instructions and guidance on how to ensure a high quality standardised assessment of a project proposal received in response to Calls for Proposals managed by the Education Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (the Agency) and advice on providing accreditation.
The aim of the expert evaluation is to ensure that each application receives an objective assessment from an external person with expertise in the field covered by the action, and that this individual assessment is also subject to a review with at least one other external person who has assessed the same application. This process helps to ensure that applications of the highest quality are selected for funding or obtain accreditation or a label. Experts support the process through evaluating applications, drafting feedback provided to applicants and reviewing the comparative merits of applications with equal scores in order to rank them.
