How Trump’s tax plan for renewables will remake US energy

How Trump’s tax plan for renewables will remake US energy | Contexto energético general | Scoop.it

The Trump administration’s new clean energy tax guidance deals a fresh blow to many wind and solar companies already reeling from enactment of the Republican megalaw, raising new questions about the trajectory of renewables. The Treasury Department plan, mandated by an executive order on July 7, rewrites decades-old standards for how wind and solar projects can qualify for lucrative credits. The revisions no longer allow projects that incur 5 percent of their costs to be considered under construction — a move that could make it difficult for many developers to receive federal support and move forward. The guidance also requires companies to meet the new standards within two weeks, angering industry advocates.

Iberia Q2 2025 Briefing

Iberia Q2 2025 Briefing | Contexto energético general | Scoop.it

Iberia has entered a new phase of cleantech acceleration. With a record-breaking €370.9 million invested in Q2, nearly double than Q1 levels, the investment signal is clear: clean industrial transition is gaining serious momentum and Iberia is right at the centre of it. Early-stage innovation remains the center of gravity, but institutional confidence is rising. In Europe, 8 out of 15 renewable hydrogen projects selected in the European Hydrogen Bank’s second auction will be hosted in Spain, a sign of growing strategic alignment between national potential and European priorities. On the ground, policy engagement is delivering results. At the same time, grid resilience has taken centre stage following the recent Iberian blackout. Our Coalition has responded, launching a new Taskforce on Grids, and gathering in Madrid to align on investment priorities and grid flexibility. Spain shows clear intent to match infrastructure with ambition and fast-tracking new measures to upgrade the electricity system but, in spite of the energy sector support, the RDL 7/2025 was rejected by Parliament. Momentum is no longer theoretical, it’s real, measurable, and accelerating.

Two years since COP28 tripling pledge, global 2030 renewable targets up by just 2%

Two years since COP28 tripling pledge, global 2030 renewable targets up by just 2% | Contexto energético general | Scoop.it

A new analysis by global energy think tank Ember reveals that, two years after the COP28 agreement to triple global renewable energy capacity by 2030, national targets have barely made progress — with the total global ambition increasing by just 2% since the agreement. This gap between global ambition and national planning risks undermining not only climate progress but also energy security and economic resilience of countries. National renewable energy targets collectively now add up to 7.4 terawatts (TW) for 2030 — just over double the 3.4 TW installed in 2022. This still falls significantly short of the 11 TW needed to meet the tripling goal agreed at COP28. The gap to tripling remains stubbornly wide at 3.7 TW, meaning countries are still only aiming for a doubling of capacity by the end of this decade.

IEA Report: 'Electricity Mid-Year Update 2025'

IEA Report: 'Electricity Mid-Year Update 2025' | Contexto energético general | Scoop.it

Global electricity demand is expected to expand at one of the fastest sustained paces in over a decade despite ongoing economic pressures, according to a new IEA report, with renewables, natural gas and nuclear all contributing to meet the additional demand. Electricity demand is set to rise by 3.3% in 2025 and 3.7% in 2026 – more than twice as fast as total energy demand growth over the same period, the IEA’s Electricity Mid-Year Update finds. The new report underscores the increasing demand for electricity to power factories and appliances, keep buildings cool, operate growing fleets of data centres, run electric vehicles and more. While the latest forecasts for global electricity demand growth this year and next are a deceleration from the 4.4% surge recorded in 2024, they remain well above the 2015-2023 average of 2.6%. Renewables are expected to overtake coal as the world’s largest source of electricity as early as 2025 or by 2026 at the latest, depending on weather and fuel price trends.

Global Renewable Energy Investment Still Reaches New Record as Investors Reassess Risks

Global Renewable Energy Investment Still Reaches New Record as Investors Reassess Risks | Contexto energético general | Scoop.it

Global investment in new renewable energy projects hit a record $386 billion in the first half of 2025, up 10% from the previous year. However, asset finance for utility-scale solar and onshore wind shrank by 13% compared to 1H 2024, reaching the lowest share of total investment since 2006, according to the latest investment data collected by BloombergNEF (BNEF) and published in the 2H 2025 Renewable Energy Investment Tracker. BNEF finds that utility-scale solar photovoltaic investment was particularly hit, falling 19% compared to the first half of 2024.  The markets that saw the largest year-on-year declines in investment – including mainland China, Spain, Greece and Brazil – have seen rising curtailment and greater exposure to negative power prices, signaling that concerns over revenue were paramount for investors. Utility-scale solar investor activity was stronger in markets with supportive government auctions or strong corporate energy demand.

Recent Federal Policy Developments and Impact of OBBB on US Power Markets

Recent Federal Policy Developments and Impact of OBBB on US Power Markets | Contexto energético general | Scoop.it

The One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) was signed into law on July 4, 2025, delivering on a clear priority of the Trump 2.0 administration to extend the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which was set to expire at the end of 2025. Passed through the budget reconciliation process using a “current policy” approach, the OBBB funds these tax cuts primarily through cuts to clean energy and Medicaid. The legislation has fundamentally altered the clean energy landscape, with nearly all energy-related aspects of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act repealed or modified, while ongoing tariff negotiations, federal permitting difficulties, and safe harbor compliance uncertainty add additional headwinds for renewables and storage developers.
