All new housing developments should have to consider community energy projects is part of an amendment to the Planning and Infrastructure Bill being put to a vote in the House of Lords.The Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee spokesperson Earl John Russell has tabled an amendment to the government’s Bill that would see any new large-scale housing development in the UK involve a renewable energy project for the community that’s being created.

More recently, Bologna has attracted attention for another reason. In January 2024, it became the first major Italian city to adopt an urban speed limit of 30 kilometers (19 miles) per hour on most city streets, with the exception of a handful of multilane arterial roads.
The policy, dubbed Bologna Città 30, made headlines across Italy and helped Bologna earn a European Union award for sustainable urban mobility, with the European Commission singling out the policy for improving road safety and air quality.

Portugal has secured €1.34 billion in EIB funding to build and renovate 12,000 affordable rental homes, in what officials call a landmark investment in housing, social cohesion, and economic resilience.
An agreement signed by the government and the European Investment Bank (EIB) on Thursday provides for a credit line to support the construction and renovation of 12,000 affordable rental homes for middle-class families.

Retrofitting residential houses is still an underutilised option for addressing the climate crisis and meeting the growing demand for more sustainable housing. While energy efficiency is a significant focus of many retrofit efforts, popular techniques often overlook the broader ecological and social dimensions of sustainability, such as the reduction of embodied carbon and the enhancement of connections between people and the environment. Concurrently, fostering Ecological Citizenship, where individuals actively engage in environmental stewardship and contribute to community resilience, is critical in addressing systemic challenges like biodiversity loss, social inequality, and climate adaptation. This article investigates how regenerative retrofitting, an emerging approach to retrofit design, can bridge this gap by transforming homes into active agents of ecological renewal.

Another Welsh council is banning junk food advertising in certain public places. Cardiff council is stopping any junk food ads on council property in a bid to make Wales' capital healthier.
The policy, approved by the council's cabinet on Friday, is focused on supporting public health, sustainability, and community wellbeing. As well as the clampdown on junk food advertising the new measure also bans ads for petrol and diesel vehicles, payday loans, tobacco, and vapes. Instead the council is setting out to encourage brands to promote healthier options.

Travailler conjointement avec les habitants et les élus permet d’améliorer et de faire émerger des projets qui répondent mieux aux besoins de la population. De nombreux outils existent, mis en œuvre grâce à des ressources externes ou avec le soutien de services dédiés. Un des outils qui a le vent en poupe est le « faire avec » développé dès 2018 à Grenoble, en Isère.

In recent decades, the most intense heatwaves in Estonia’s recorded history have all occurred: 2010, 2014, 2018, 2021 and 2022. While the last three summers brought shorter heatwaves to Estonia, record-breaking heat has been observed elsewhere in Europe. This year, for example, polar areas in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia exceeded 30˚C on an unprecedented number of days, while Portugal and Spain recorded over 46 °C in June.
