This is amazing...

Mick D Kirkov's curator insight, March 21, 2014 1:54 AM

On this demo video aren't the 1000 years promised, anyway it's a great story, to see the History moving visualized, even for a small period of time. On the pic above from 1226 there's a relative small Kievan Rus as opposed to a big Poland, Bohemia, Lithuania, Hungary and Holy Roman Empire, two Bulgarias, small Muslim Spain and a disassembled into more realms "Byzantine Empire" that in the time wasn't even called so but Βασιλεία Ῥωμαίων (or Imperium Romanum, and first after it's surrender under the Turcs 1453, from about 1550 was so called, to appear in the the History books after the city of Byzantium that is today's Istanbul).

Rewriting History

Rewriting History | Doing History | Scoop.it

Federal education minister Christopher Pyne appears to have reignited the History Wars with a call to rewrite the newly-minted national history curriculum to remove alleged left-wing bias. History editor ‒ and history teacher ‒ Dr Glenn Davies says how history is taught in Australian schools should not depend on who is running the country.

Video clip synopsis – A small lifeboat, retrieved from the shores of Gallipoli, is a direct link to the first Anzacs and the day that helped forge Australia’s identity.

Maree Whiteley's insight:

Gallipoli Boat
Another fabulous video from the 'National Treasures' series- How did a lifeboat, left to rot on the shores of Gallipoli, come to have pride of place at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra? Curator John White tells the story of this little boat’s tumultuous journey as Warren Brown helps us imagine what it was like for those first Anzacs on the day that helped forge Australia’s identity.

Using Historical Documents to Spark Student Voice

Using Historical Documents to Spark Student Voice | Doing History | Scoop.it
Language arts teacher Jessica Keigan describes a project she used to help build her students' critical thinking and communication skills—as well as their stake in their education system.
Maree Whiteley's insight:

History and English curriculum links..."For history class, they continued to read and analyze historical documents as representations of patterns and stages of various revolutions of the 1700s and 1800s. In English, we moved from analysis of informational texts to a study of A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens. Students applied their analytical skills to deconstruct Dickens' style and purpose. They looked for evidence of his historical perspective and authorial choices and examined how these two elements worked together to create a commentary on revolutionary ideas."
