Peope talk of a planet wide democratization of education yet it will be up to the educators to take ownership of these products and platforms to adjust them to their needs as well as their students.

Yes, educators have the choice and so do learners. Accountability for one's choices and responsibility for one's learning process is part of life. There are few barriers today. Obviously, access to hardware and electricity are essential, as well as knowing that there are available options. Nevertheless, the saying "You can lead a horse to water but not make it drink" remains as true as ever.
