One of the biggest resulting threats to cities around the world is sea-level rise, caused by the expansion of water at higher temperatures and melting ice sheets on the north and south poles. Scientists at the non-profit organisation Climate Central estimate that 275 million people worldwide live in areas that will eventually be flooded at 3C of global warming.

Coastal officials vote to tear down sea wall protecting Laguna Beach mansion

The Coastal Commission voted Thursday to order a Laguna Beach couple to pay $1 million and tear down a seawall that is protecting a multi-million home. The seawall is illegal, officials say, and causes the public beach in front of the home to disappear. The homeowners say the law is on their side.
