MaxPreps once again is proud to showcase the best high school volleyball players in California. Teams are divided up by enrollment division, with a Player of the Year for each classification.

The Coach of the Year is Tommy Chaffins of Redondo Union. The 2015 Sea Hawks were far different looking than the dominant 2014 team, as Chaffins had four key players to replace, a challenging schedule and a lineup shorter than most in California's competitive Southern Section.

The 2014 Sea Hawks dominated from start to finish in winning their final 27 games and the state D-I title. Redondo won 39 of 41 matches and went 9-0 in the playoffs with a 27-7 set match differential. They lost just 18 sets all season.

In 2015, Chaffins built his team around two key returnees in seniors Norene Iosia and Megan Rice. He also had the tradition he's built in his dozen seasons as head coach, which includes a 317-78 won-loss record in the last 10 seasons.

Despite two late-season heartbreaking losses (including its first league loss since 2011), Chaffins kept his team focused, leading the Sea Hawks to their second-straight Division I state title and a 37-4 record. Chaffins also earned CIF-SS D-1AA Coach of the Year honors.

"I'm not sure how many teams have won a D-1 state title with a 5-6 outside hitter and a 5-8 opposite side hitter. But our team was resilient," said Chaffins.

He said there were a few surprises along the way.

"We had a great bench that pushed the starters every day, and our team played really smart and was usually very low error. In the end, our experience along with the girls' high volleyball I.Q. won out," said Chaffins. "Of course, having superstars Megan Rice and Norene Iosia were the biggest two factors."

Though they lost their last league game (3-2 to Mira Costa), then fell to rival Mater Dei in the Southern Section D-1AA title match, the Sea Hawks reached the Southern California Regional Tournament as a No. 4 seed.

Not deterred by rankings, they upset Torrey Pines in San Diego, at that time the No. 1-ranked team in the state.

The Sea Hawks then beat Huntington Beach and Northern California champion Menlo-Atherton to repeat as champions. Behind the play of Rice, who had a match-high 22 kills, and Iosia, who had 36 assists and four service aces, Redondo dominated Menlo-Atherton (25-16, 25-18, 25-16).

Chaffins even started a freshman – 6-foot middle Kyla Doig – in a conference were few freshmen see anything but junior varsity playing time.

Iosia, who was a finalist for MaxPreps National Player of the Year, is MaxPreps' California D-I Player of the Year. And Rice is a D-I all-state selection. They shared the Daily Breeze 2015 Volleyball Player of the Year honor.



DIVISION I
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
S - Norene Iosia, Redondo Union (Redondo Beach), 6-0 Sr.
Iosia led the Sea Hawks to their second-straight California D-I title. Her coach says there is "no better player" than Iosia, who has signed with Hawaii. A finalist for MaxPreps National POY, she finished the season averaging 9.4 assists, 3.2 digs, 1.0 blocks, 1.4 aces and hit 70.7 percent on kills.

OH - Megan Rice, Redondo Union (Redondo Beach), 5-10 Sr.
Co-MVP of the Santa Monica Breeze All-Area Volleyball Team, Rice averaged 4.9 kills per set (49.4 percent), blocked 47 shots and averaged 3.9 digs. She will attend UC Santa Barbara.

OH - Allison Kantor, Trabuco Hills (Mission Viejo), 6-0 Sr.
Kantor led Trabuco Hills (33-5) to the CIF-SS 1A title and was rewarded by being named CIF-SS D1 POY, as well as the Orange County Register POY. She has signed with Santa Clara. 

OH - Katherine Claybaugh, San Ramon Valley (Danville), 6-0 Sr.
Claybaugh had 450 kills (5.7 per set), the most in the North Coast Section. She helped power the Wolves to third in the competitive EBAL but was hampered by injury in the playoffs. A two-time MaxPreps All-American, she was named All-East Bay.

OH - Meghan McClure, Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita), 6-1 Jr.
McClure was named to the CIF-Southern Section 1A team, Trinity League MVP and first team Orange County Register All-County team. McClure finished with 439 kills, 342 digs and nine aces as Santa Margarita finished 38-4.

OH - Savvy Simo, Torrey Pines (San Diego), 5-10 Sr.
The future UCLA Bruin finished this season with 380 kills, 186 digs, 32 aces and 26 blocks as Torrey Pines finished the season 35-2. Simo, who will play both indoor and sand volleyball for the Bruins, was named the San Diego Section POY.

OH - Kayla Lund, Flintridge Sacred Heart (La Canada-Flintridge), 5-11 Jr.
Lund recorded a team-high 554 kills en route to being named the league's co-Most Valuable Player. Lund added 273 digs and 37 aces to help Flintridge Sacred Heart go 26-9. She was also chosen first team all-CIF Southern Section.

OH - Milan Stokes, Woodrow Wilson (Long Beach), 6-0 Sr.
Stokes, who was named the Long Beach Press Telegram co-POY, led Wilson to a 22-13 season by recording 439 kills, 53 aces, 3.7 digs per set and returned 294 service receptions. She has signed with LSU.

OH - Lulu Kishton, Los Altos, 6-0 Sr.
Kishton, who is headed for Johns Hopkins, averaged 4.4 kills and 3.1 digs per set and was named co-MVP of the SCVAL's De Anza Division. She led Los Altos to a league title and the Central Coast Section D-I semifinals.

S - Jessie Prichard, Santiago (Corona), 5-9 Sr.
Prichard is a two-time CIF Southern Section first-team honoree and has led the Sharks to the D-I championship match two of the last three seasons. As a senior, she recorded 941 assists, 63 aces and had 138 digs. She will attend Loyola Marymount after posting 4,011 career assists.

S - Kirby Knapp, Menlo-Atherton (Atherton), 5-6 Jr.
The floor leader for California's Division I runner-up, Knapp recorded 1,024 assists, had 265 digs and served for 246 points (95.9 percent, 46 aces). She was a MaxPreps 2013 Underclass All-American, named to the MaxPreps 2015 Junior All-American Team and was named the San Mateo Daily Journal's Player of the Year.

A-A - Kathryn Plummer, Aliso Niguel (Aliso Viejo), 6-6 Sr.
Plummer had 368 kills while recording a .591 kill percentage and .427 hitting percentage this past season, leading the Wolverines (23-7) to the Southern Section quarterfinals. Plummer totaled 368 assists, 226 digs, 60 blocks and 33 service aces in 30 matches. A member of the U.S. Girls Youth National Team and USA Volleyball's Beach U19 National Team, she is the only player in history to earn medals in both indoor and beach volleyball at the FIVB World Championships. She has signed with Stanford.

L - Alexa Roumeliotis, Menlo-Atherton (Atherton), 5-7 Jr.
Roumeliotis averaged 7.2 digs per set in leading Menlo-Atherton to a state runner-up finish. She also served for 184 points and returned 541 serves in 99 sets (5.5 average).

DIVISION II
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
OH - Kyra Banko, Village Christian (Sun Valley), 6-0 Sr.
The Gonzaga-bound Banko was named D-2AA CIF-SS POY, Olympic League MVP and the Los Angeles Daily News POY. Banko led Village Christian to the state D-II final, as she finished with 523 kills, 45 aces, 49 blocks and 274 digs. The team boasted the best record in the school's 65-year history and was the first girls volleyball team to participate in the state regional championships.

MB - May Pertofsky, Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.), 6-1 Frosh
Pertofsky earned all-CIF-SS D-2A honors after leading Sierra Canyon to the section final and to the Southern California Regionals before losing to Village Christian. She recorded 298 kills and 51 blocks.

OH - Elly Lundberg, Redwood (Larkspur), 5-10 Sr.
Lundberg led Redwood to MCAL and North Coast Section titles and was named the Marin Independent Journal's POY. She finished with 365 kills and 350 digs. She will play beach at Arizona State.

OH - Allison Martinez, Westridge (Pasadena), 5-10 Soph.
Martinez led the state in kills with 688 (200 more than the closest player to her in the CIF-SS). Martinez's per-set kill average of 7.5 was among the national leaders. She also had a team-high 66 aces and team-high 37 blocked shots. She had the second-most serve receptions for the Tigers.

OH - Chanti Holroyd, Mountain View, 5-10 Sr.
The SCVAL De Anza Division co-MVP, Holroyd averaged 4.4 kills per set while helping the Spartans advance to the semifinals of the CCS D-II playoffs. She is headed for UCLA to play sand volleyball.

OH - Brigid Bell, Granite Bay, 5-10 Sr.
Bell served 99 aces and accounted for nearly 300 service points in leading Granite Bay to a 32-win season. Bell also recorded 279 digs, 370 kills and 533 serve receptions.

S - Lauren Speckman, Archbishop Mitty (San Jose), 5-10 Sr.
Speckman was first-team all-WCAL and led Mitty to its fourth-consecutive state championship, finishing the season with 638 assists. She is headed to Marquette next year.

S - Selby Schnobrich, Village Christian (Sun Valley), 5-11 Sr.
Schnobrich was much more than just a setter, as she recorded 79 blocks, 243 points on 97.8 percent serving, 231 digs, 11.4 assists per set (1,371 in 120 sets) and 60 kills as Village Christian reached the D-II state final. She has signed with Bucknell.

S - Mari Molina, Redwood (Larkspur), 5-7 Jr.
Molina served 87 aces and scored 310 points for the 41-5 Giants. The big number was 1,239 (12.4 per set) assists. She also 252 digs and blocked 28 shots. She has committed to play beach volleyball at Stetson University.

S - Kayla Joyce, Pleasant Valley (Chico), 5-6 Jr.
The top setter in the Northern Section, Joyce led the Vikings to a 31-win season. She served 129 aces for 336 points, had 226 digs and recorded 1,104 assists.

L - Molly Patapoff, Whittier Christian (La Habra), 5-5 Sr.
Patapoff returned 610 serves with only 18 errors in 94 sets and had 638 digs. She also had 55 aces and totaled 196 points in Whittier Christian's 24-10 season.

L - Regan Lough, King (Riverside), 5-6 Sr.
Headed to Villanova, Lough recorded 588 digs (7.2 per set) and finished the season with a 97.4 serving percentage. Lough, who was co-MVP of Big 8 League and first-team Riverside Press Enterprise all-Inland, returned 417 service receptions in 82 sets.

A-A - Sedona Hansen, Serrano (Phelan), 5-8 Sr.
The Mojave River League MVP, Hansen helped the Diamondbacks reach the CIF-SS D-2A semifinals. She was all CIF-SS and finished the season with 357 kills, 32 solo blocks, 485 digs and 325 assists. The Tennessee signee was named to the San Bernardino Press All-Area Team.

DIVISION III
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
MB – Ronika Stone, Valley Christian (San Jose), 6-3 Sr.
The Oregon signee led Valley Christian to the D-III state title by again putting up big numbers (498 kills for a 5.6 per set average), 25 aces, 46 blocks and 331 digs (3.8 average). Stone, who was the MaxPreps Medium Schools Player of the Year, is the daughter of former NFL player Ron Stone.

OH - Pearl Escobar, Calexico, 5-10 Sr.
Escobar put Calexico on the map a year ago leading the Bulldogs to an 18-15 record and the postseason for the first time in school history. This year, they went 25-11 and 4-1 in the postseason, as Escobar averaged 6.6 kills and 3.5 digs. She also served 95.5 percent with 75 aces. Escobar, who has signed with Hawaii Pacific, was named second-team all-CIF San Diego Section.

OH - Breana Runnels, Independence (Bakersfield), 5-10 Sr.
Runnels, named the Bakersfield Californian's Player of the Year, led the Central Section with 5.6 kills per set (535 total). She also had 65 aces, 45 blocks, 246 digs and 376 serve receptions. She has signed with Colorado State.

OH - Tesa Oaks, Woodcrest Christian (Riverside), 6-1 Jr.
It was another monster year for Oaks. She averaged 6.5 kills in leading the Royals to a 22-6 season and also served for 232 points (54 aces), posted 254 digs, 37 blocks and returned 393 serves. Named the Ambassador League's Player of the Year, she was also chosen to the CIF-SS D-3A first team.

OH - Katelyn Evans, Highland (Palmdale), 5-10 Sr.
Evans had a kill percentage of 62 to go along with a 6.0 per set kill average as the Bulldogs went 24-3. She also served 92 percent with 44 aces and averaged 2.0 digs per set. She was named CIF-SS 3-AA first team.

OH - Kristen Sibley, Campolindo (Moraga), 6-2 Sr.
Sibley's all-around performance is best described with her statistics: 325 kills, 241 digs, 73 blocks and 68 aces. Sibley was the key in a Cougars program that reached the NCS D-III final in each of her four varsity seasons. The Hawaii signee was named the Contra Costa Times East Bay POY.

OH - Shannon Geraty, Saddleback Valley Christian (San Juan Capistrano), 6-1 Sr.
Geraty helped the Warriors win a third-consecutive CIF-SS title, as she recorded 259 kills, 100 total blocks and 69 digs. She was the CIF-SS D-3A Player of the Year.

OH - Bekah Boyle, Shasta (Redding), 5-10 Sr.
A member of the school's record-setting sprint relay teams, Boyle was named all-Northern Section after leading Shasta to a 38-9 season. She averaged four kills per set, served 94.3 percent with 68 aces and had 294 digs (2.5 average). She will attend Chico State.

OH - Carina Brackett, Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland), 5-10 Sr.
The WACC-Foothill League MVP had 267 kills, 242 digs, 39 aces and 19 blocks for the team that won the CIF-NCS D-III section title and reached the NorCal semifinals.

S - Tori Dilfer, Valley Christian (San Jose), 5-10 Jr.
The daughter of former NFL quarterback Trent, Dilfer averaged 11.25 (1,249) assists as Valley Christian won California's D-III state title. She also scored 213 points on serves (37 aces in 400 attempts), blocked 31 shots and posted 332 digs. Dilfer has committed to Notre Dame, where she will be reunited with her sister, Maddie.

S - Camryn Purdom, Valley View (Moreno Valley), 5-7 Sr.
Purdom finished with 748 assists (8.7 per set) in helping the Eagles capture their first section championship. She registered 145 digs, 102 kills and 49 aces and shared the Inland Valley League's Most Valuable Player award and also was selected as the CIF-SS D-3A Player of the Year.

L - Alexis Dirige, Sacred Heart Cathedral (San Francisco), 5-2 Sr.
Dirige, who has committed to Washington State, plays much bigger than 5-2. She recorded 687 digs, served 90.9 percent (52 aces) and returned 555 serves as SHC finished 30-9.

A-A - Laura Butler, La Serna (Whittier), 5-8 Sr.
Butler, who was named the Whittier Daily News POY, had 348 kills, 28 blocks, 52 aces and 493 digs. She was named CIF-SS all-3AA and the Del Rio League's MVP.

DIVISION IV
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
MB - Devyn Cross, Desert (Edwards AFB), 6-1 Sr.
The CIF-SS D-4A POY, Cross led Desert to the state semifinals and a 28-3 season. She averaged 4.6 kills (51.9 kill percentage), served 46 aces, blocked 131 shots (1.5 per set) and had 370 digs (4.2). She has signed with Arizona.

MH - Elizabeth Shelton, Desert (Edwards AFB), 6-2 Sr.
Also a standout basketball and track athlete, Shelton teamed with All-American teammate Cross to give the Owls one of the best frontlines in the state. She averaged 5.1 kills per set, served an ace 22.3 percent of the time, blocked 101 shots, had 288 digs and returned 356 serves in 88 sets. The Arizona signee was a first-team all-CIF-SS 4A selection.

MH - Jordon Wilson, Summit (Fontana), 6-1 Sr.
Wilson took MVP honors in the Sunkist League after leading the SkyHawks (22-5) to their best season in school history. She managed 328 kills (4.5 per set), 127 blocks (1.7) and 72 service aces. A first-team all-CIF pick, Wilson scored in double figures in kills in all but two matches.

OH - Haven Hill, St. Bonaventure (Ventura), 5-8 Sr.
Hill finished with a school-record 629 kills, 241 digs, 102 aces and 91 solo blocks in 22 matches. Hill was named the Tri-Valley League's Most Valuable Player and was an all-CIF selection in D-4AA. She has signed to play beach volleyball at TCU.

OH - Emily Baptista, Hilmar, 6-2 Sr.
Baptista, a two-time MaxPreps All-American, led Hilmar deep into the postseason for the third-straight season and once again put up eye-popping numbers: 579 kills (5.2 average), 91 aces (22.7 percent of her serves were aces), 39 blocks and 374 digs (3.4). She has signed with Pacific.

OH - Katie Smoot, Notre Dame (Belmont), 6-1 Jr.
Smoot averaged five kills per set to lead Notre Dame (32-10) to the D-IV state title. She also had 180 digs, 57 aces and scored 236 points.

OH - Gabrielle Oddo, Alta Loma, 5-10 Sr.
Oddo registered 557 kills, 328 digs, 35 blocks and 55 aces, earning Mt. Baldy League MVP and first-team all-CIF-SS honors. She reached double digits in kills in 32 of 39 matches and recorded 20 or more 10 times. 

OH - Peyton Shelburne, Cate (Carpinteria), 5-8 Sr.
Shelburne's consistent all-around game led the Rams to a second-straight Frontier League title and a spot in the CIF-SS D4A semifinals. Shelburne notched 344 kills and picked up 259 digs. She will play collegiately at Washington & Lee.

S - Kristine Gese, Notre Dame (Belmont), 5-9 Jr.
Gese played a major role in leading the Tigers to the 4A state title. She led the state in assists with 1,482 for a 12.0 assist per set average. She also had 179 digs and recorded 43 aces.

S - Joy Lee, St. Paul (Santa Fe Springs), 5-4 Frosh
Lee recorded 10.6 assists (1,006) and served 94.9 percent with 30 aces as St. Paul reached the second round of the playoffs and won 24 of 34 matches.

L - Carissa Rivette, Frazier Mountain (Lebec), 5-3 Jr.
Rivette averaged 90 percent serving and scored 44 aces, but her big number is 8.5 digs (778 in 91 sets), as the Falcons went 24-8 and won a match in the regional playoffs. She also had 447 serve receptions.

L - Kayelea McGrew, West Valley (Cottonwood), 5-5 Sr.
McGrew averaged 6.9 digs per set as the Eagles went 30-5. An all-Northern Athletic League performer, McGrew also returned 467 serves.

A-A - Phoebe Madsen, Laguna Blanca (Santa Barbara), 5-8 Sr.
Madsen did it all for Laguna Blanca. She finished the team's magical season with 264 kills on a .350 hitting average, 607 assists, 83 service aces and 317 digs. Madsen's all-around contributions led Laguna Blanca to the CIF-SS 4AA and CIF D-IV Southern Regional titles and a runner-up finish in the D-IV state final. Madsen will continue her career at Claremont McKenna College.

DIVISION V
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
OH - Grace Roberts-Burbank, Branson (Ross), 6-3 Sr.
Burbank averaged 5.1 kills and 93 percent serving (37 aces) in leading the Bulls to a 30-9 season and a D-V state title, Branson's fifth since 2009. Roberts-Burbank, who has signed with Harvard, was named first-team WCAL and was named to the California Challenge All-Tournament Team.

MB - Simone Froley, San Francisco Waldorf, 6-1 Sr.
Froley led the Wolverines to a 31-4 record and 25 straight victories that ended with a D-VI regional title (NorCal has a Division VI). She averaged 2.8 kills, served an ace 24 percent of the time, blocked 48 shots (0.9 average), and recorded 162 digs. She has committed to UC San Diego.

MB - Alicia Borges, Vacaville Christian, 5-11 Sr.
Named the Sierra Delta League's MVP, Borges led the Falcons to a 25-8 season when she averaged 4.2 kills and 4.1 digs per set. She also served 75 aces and returned 403 serves.

OH - Kylie Brown, Santa Clarita Christian (Canyon Country), 5-8 Sr.
A three-time Heritage League POY, Brown led SCCS to a third-straight perfect league season and to the CIF-SS D-5AA finals for the second year in a row and advancing to the D-V regional final. Brown, named all-CIF-SS for the third time, led the Cardinals with 428 kills and 67 aces on the year.

OH - Rachel Holmes, Upland Christian Academy (Rancho Cucamonga), 5-9 Sr.
Holmes had 375 kills, 92 aces, 248 digs and 361 serve receptions - all team highs. Holmes was named the CIF-Southern Section 5-AA POY. 

OH - Nikki DeSerpa, Notre Dame (Salinas), 6-0 Sr.
DeSerpa led Notre Dame to a 33-6 record with averages of 3.8 kills and 2.6 digs and 60 aces as it won five playoff matches before losing to eventual state champion Branson.

S - Megan Gallion, Fall River (McArthur), 5-6 Sr.
Gallion recorded 790 assists and 90 aces (totaled 454 service points) as Fall River went 33-6. She was named MVP of the Shasta Cascade League.

S - Vanesa Cota, Los Molinos, 5-3 Sr.
Named the Five Star League's MVP, Cota led the Bulldogs to a 27-17 season by dishing out 916 assists (7.6 average) and served 77 aces (91.8 percent).

L - Kyra Wyman, Tarbut V' Torah (Irvine), 5-7 Jr.
A repeat all-state performer, Wyman averaged 1.5 aces per set and scored 213 points as the Lions won 24 of 27 matches. She also had 483 digs and returned 259 serves.

OH - Kiana Krumm, La Sierra Academy (Riverside), 5-10 Sr.
A repeat all-state performer, Krumm averaged 4.6 kills, served 53 aces in 56 sets and only made six serve reception errors in 155 attempts. She was also named to the all-CIF-SS 5-AA team.

L - Emma Scanlan, Head-Royce (Oakland), 5-7 Sr.
Scanlan, a four-year all-league performer, has signed with Portland. The Jayhawks went 36-3 and reached the NorCal D-V regionals before losing.

A-A - Maddy Schoenberger, Branson (Ross), 6-0 Sr.
Schoenberger did everything for Branson. She hit (3.1 kills, 56.8 kill percentage), served (38 aces, 93 percent), blocked (30), dug (2.5 average) and assisted (4.3 average) as the Bulls won the state title.

A-A - Natasha Skov, Head-Royce (Oakland), 5-10 Sr.
Skov, who was named league MVP and second-team all-East Bay, has signed with Princeton
