Unfortunately, this story hit a little too close to home--I have walked through hell trying to raise my Asian American daughter to continue to celebrate her ethnic Kazakh pride in a school system in our small town while she endured similar mistreatment to that suffered to the story's author. I finally transferred her to a more tolerant school system, where she is now thriving.

I only hope school administrators will actually abide by the law rather than keeping their heads buried in the sand and continue to categorically deny that ANY bullying exists at their school--and, of course, blaming the victim and his/her failure for fabricating their mistreatment, and thus avoiding conducting required impartial and immediate reporting requirements.
