BIODIVERSITY IS LIFE –
The Miraculous Web of Life Sustains ALL Species on Planet Earth – Healthy Ecosystems, Healthy Humans. WITHOUT NATURE WE DO NOT EXIST. PERIOD.  To the degree Nature is sick, so are we.  We humans must reintegrate into the greater web of life as a species within it and not separate from it, by returning to respect and restoring balance and harmony to that which supports all life on this planet ... Nature ... #GDP should be replaced by #EcoEconomics ... Putting front and center the concerns for how we are destroying and objectifying the natural world for profit  #Conservation #Ecosystems #Wildlife #Forests #Environment #Biodiversity #Ecoeconomics #CSR #GDP #Anthropocene

How wolves increased biodiversity in Yellowstone - VIDEO

                                                     VIDEO
Canis lupus hominis, February 03, 2012
HOW WOLVES INCREASED BIODIVERSITY IN YELLOWSTONE

In Yellowstone, elk browse on aspen, willows, and cottonwood less when they have to worry about wolves. The aspen forests have started to regenerate, which is great news for riparian areas. These improved riparian areas are good for a wide range of wildlife. Beavers return to eat the willows. They make ponds, which are good for lots of other wildlife, and the trees are great for songbirds.

-▶ A MASSACRE OF WOLVES IS TAKING PLACE.

For about two years now, a wolf genocide has been occurring in North America. The population of Gray wolves in the Northern Rockies have plummeted; a slaughter of 2700 wolves in six states has occurred as of February 2014. While there has been a war on wolves for centuries, the bloodshed began to resurface when President Obama removed federal protection from gray wolves in Montana, Idaho, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Wyoming and Michigan in April of 2011. Montana and Idaho won the rights to hunt and kill wolves in the most gruesome of ways, as a result of anti-wolf interests... http://positiveactivism.org/2014/04/10/op-ed-a-massacre-of-wolves-is-taking-place/

Back from near-extinction, the gray wolf will soon be removed from the endangered species list. Now, Wyoming has struck a deal with the federal government to allow trophy hunting of the predator in certain parts of the state.

Food, Technology and Biodiversity

Food, Technology and Biodiversity | BIODIVERSITY IS LIFE – | Scoop.it

In the 21's century our food has become mass produced and shipped worl wide. Our companies are doing whatever they can jsut to produce the food, these companies dont care what they put in it as long as the customers are buying. They are putting to many chemicals in the food which make it unhealthy for humans.

Via Jack Smalley
Kyle Patchett's curator insight, September 2, 2016 4:20 AM
This article explains in an emotive fashion that humans as a species aren't as diverse as first thought. The author, Rachel Laudan, explains that even as technology and food production has changed, much remains the same. There are on average 20,000 plants that are edible to humans, yet there are 11 plants that provide a steady diet for 93% of the worlds' population. These plants have been part of our diet for thousands of years and since the birth of farming itself. The article is produced from a food historians' point of view on the matter of change that we as a species have made. The information shows that even as technology, agriculture and farming has expanded, we have just found ways to do the same thing but slightly better than we previously had done.

The hallmark of the flora and fauna of Madagascar and the Indian Ocean islands is not necessarily their diversity (though this is high in some groups of organisms, particularly given the islands' size), but their remarkable endemism. The high level of species unique to Madagascar and its surrounding islands resulted from tens of millions of years of isolation from the African mainland and from people, who didn't arrive until 2,000 years ago
