BTB Invites L.A. Clippers | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The Belize Touism Board invited the Los Angeles Clippers to Belize in their latest humorous invite.  The Breaking Bad cast invite was classic, and this one's well done too.  They also mention the new L.A. to Belize flight that Delta will start offering for the next busy season.  But maybe send the team to play on Falcon Field instead of in Belize City.  Yes, they really did mention BC as a destination.  Funny!

The San Ignacio Resort Hotel just got a superb review from the Ambergris Today.  It highlights the beauty of the hotel, and the quality and teamwork of its staff.  It's obvious why they won the Belize Tourism Board's 'Hotel of the Year' award.  Humberto and the Green Iguana Conservation Project get praise too, of course.  Jose Luis Zapata got some great pictures.

"Nestled in the heart of the Cayo District you will find one of Belize’s oldest and finest premier resort, The San Ignacio Resort Hotel. This resort boasts first class amenities and accommodations for locals and international visitors seeking to relax or explore our beautiful Belize.  Upon our arrival at the hotel we were greeted with the warmest of smiles from of one the friendliest front desk receptionist, Amaris Wakefield; she immediately made us feel at home...

A huge part that makes your stay at the resort is the staff’s professional and friendly service.  Through the very enlightening encounters with their staff you can learn how knowledgeable Humberto Requena is about the Green Iguana Project (you get big smiles from him all the time), how attentive to details and serviceable waiter/bartender Ragner Smith and Food & Beverage Manager Fiona Rudon are, how Daryll Leslie from maintenance is willing to help out any of his coworkers and even the guests in anything possible and how Head Chef of the Running W Restaurant Estella Vellicillo has over 13 years experience in the culinary field."

BTB Campaign Wins Awards

BTB Campaign Wins Awards | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Remember last year when the BTB offered the Breaking Bad stars a trip to Belize when they'd mentioned it in the show?  They won some awards because of it.  It was well done.

"The Belize Tourism Board with Olson Engage took home Best in Show honors for its 'Breaking Bad’s Trip to Belize' campaign at the In2 SABRE Awards at the Four Seasons San Francisco last week.  The campaign — which also won in for marketing buzz and digital influence — took home best in show for turning a potential negative into a memorable, remarkable opportunity.  Earlier this year, the hit AMC show 'Breaking Bad' used the phrase taking a 'trip to Belize' as a euphemism for killing someone.  Following this, the Belize Tourism Board showed its sense of humor in a series of light-hearted tweets directed at the show’s actors and TV influencers.  The team also partnered with the New York Times for an exclusive story inviting the cast of 'Breaking Bad' on  a free vacation to Belize."

The Belize Tourism Board's website was listed on Skift.com's '20 Best Designed Tourism Websites in the World' list.  The site is pretty nice, and worth a quick look.

"TravelBelize.org immediately pulls first-time and repeat site visitors in with an embedded Vimeo video.  This is an advanced technique that few other tourism websites employ.  The website continues to engage visitors with a scrolling homepage that uses large graphics and warm colors to highlight the activities at and tropical culture of the destination."

Belizean Recycling at its Finest

T-shirts made from plastic?  Yes!  The concept was demonstrated at the World Travel Expo in London this week.  They collected 18 million plastic bottles, made a fiber that was turned into yarn, and then used that to make the shirts.  Better than burning or discarding.  The Belize Tourism Board really scored big with this one.  Truly an inspiring video, and definitely worth a watch.

"Andrew Wigmore, the managing director of Wigmore Media, talks about a project in Belize where they convert plastic bottles into make T-Shirts. He explains how it's done, the cost and its impact on the environment"

BTB Reports Record 1Q Tourism

BTB Reports Record 1Q Tourism | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The Belize Tourism Board has released their tourism number for the first quarter, and they have broken by far previous records.  The Cayo Tour Guide Association has the entire report on their site.  This is great news for Cayo, as Cruz Cambranes explains:

"If we recall 2012 saw an increase of tourism activity in Belize and most of us did not see a low season, those numbers show a substantial increase 2013.  These records show a 7.58%, 6.0% and a 10.1% increase of tourist arrivals in the months of January, February and March compared to last years arrivals.  If we look at the month of March alone which is spring break rush there was a growth which broke its own record by reaching 28,623.  Well we certainly hope that this continues."
