Bullet Tree Falls had their Family Day yesterday. There were fun and games for everyone.
"The Bullet Tree Falls Neighborhood Watch Committee today sponsored a family fun day. It featured sporting activities, including football and volleball at the football field in the village." Feelgood news of the day. The Bullet Tree Falls Neighborhood Watch got a new motorcycle donated to them, along with phone service, from the Cariddi family. There are around 20 neighborhood watches around Cayo, and donations like this are what keep them going. A big thanks to the Cariddi family.
"PEOPLE POWER: The Cariddi family of San Ignacio, Cayo is putting their money where their mouth is. On Thursday, the head of the family, Mary Cariddi, handed over her family's contribution the efforts of the neighborhood watch program in Bullet Tree Falls village, Cayo. A brand new motorcycle was handed over to the committee. In addition to the motorcycle, the Cariddi family also facilitated the installation of a phone service for use by the committee in keeping the village safe. All total, the donation from the Cariddi family amounts to over $5,000." Saint Martin's Credit Union will be visiting several of Cayo's villages this week to inform people about the credit union, and all it has to offer. They'll also have account opening specials for only $17.50. They visited Bullet Tree Falls today. Tomorrow, they'll be in Esperanza, at the preschool compound, from 1:00pm until 4:00pm. Thursday, they'll be at the community center in San Antonio. Go learn more about why SMCU is the best option. The world has lost an amazing medicine man today. Don Beto Cocom has passed away after loosing a battle with cancer. Don Beto praticed Yucatec Mayan medicine, and has helped 1000's of people through the years. He is world famous, as is his Masewal Maya Jungle Garden and Medicinal Trail in Bullet Tree Falls. Descanse en Paz, amigo! A budding photographer recently came through Cayo, and captured some great shots from around the area. Xunantunich, Cahal Pech, Caracol, the Saturday market, the Parrot Nest, and downtown are all in there, along with many other Cayo spots.
"Once upon a time I went to Belize and Mexico for a month with my family. I saw a ton of Mayan ruins, 26 new species of birds, got horrible food poisoning and became extremely tan. It was awesome... We hired a friendly guide and spent the next two days traveling through the mountains and jungles to see Mayan ruins. We encountered the worst roads I had ever seen in my life (worse than Costa Rica) and met all sorts of interesting people. The first day we visited a relatively unknown Mayan site named 'El Pilar' which was not excavated and allowed us to see what ruins look like while still mostly underground. Following that we went to an unpronounceable site called Xunantunich and wandered around the city of San Ignacio afterward. On the second day we spent three hours driving to a place known as Caracol. On the way back we stopped and swam in a gorgeous mountain stream surrounded by pine trees. It looked almost like Oregon." Feelgood story of the day. A student group from University of Central Arkansas and Hendrix College was recently in Bullet Tree Falls to help with construction projects and do missionary work. One student explains how the trip changed her life for the better in this wonderful article.
"When we weren't teaching or working on construction, the kids were grabbing at our hands begging us to play games with them, share jokes or just sit and talk. They had so much energy and joy that it did not matter how tired I was that day, I tried hard to be there for them. Every night after we were through with our work, the missionaries gathered in the chapel at the old monastery where we were staying and offered reflections on the day. Everyone felt that we were making an impact on the people, but more importantly, we felt the impact they were making on us. I gave Belize a piece of my heart. I think it's only natural to do that when you spend time in work and fellowship in a foreign country."

John Pinelo, a brilliant teacher and mentor of 1000's, has passed away. His funeral is tomorrow at 3:00pm at the Sacred Heart Church. His wake is this evening.
"John Pinelo career teacher, principal and former BNTU President passed away at his home in San Ignacio this weekend at the age of 64. He had been battling cancer for some years. His family tells us Mr. John Pinelo was instrumental in molding the lives of many young Belizeans serving as either a teacher or principal for many of Belize's Schools including: Santa Elena R.C., Roaring Creek R.C., Sacred Heart Primary, Bullet Tree Falls R.C., Saint Francis Xavier R.C., Succotz R.C. and Sacred Heart College." Daniel Velazquez is preparing for next Spring's film school, which will be happening in Bullet Tree Falls. Sandro is in there, as is the Bullet Tree Falls Women's Group, and many other interesting people.
"raw footage of subjects for documentary. Bulletree Falls, Cayo Belize Central America" Here's a well written travel article about Cayo which makes for a great Sunday read. It has many colorful pictures, many from houses around town, along with some pictures from downtown, and the Mopan river. Bullet Tree Falls, 'deep into the jungle' as the author puts it, is shown in pictures, as well as the Parrot Nest, which is where they stayed. Mr. Greedy's get an honorable mention too.
"How an Unexpected Delay Led to a Wonderful Trip to San Ignacio, Belize. Sometimes, when it seems like things are going from bad to worst, all you gotta do is hang in there for a bit until the sun comes out again... Something you immediately notice upon entering Belize are the colors of the residences. If you're from the USA and ever wondered whatever happens to all those always-on-sale-at-50-percent-off cans of loud, garish paint, I have a theory about where they end up." The Bullet Tree Falls Environmental Committee is very active in the Cayo community. They are planning another river cleanup for the Mopan river.

Their new FB page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bullet-Tree-Falls-Environmental/335251749836518 Congratulations to Noema Manzanero for being Cayo's Teacher of the Year! "Congratulations to NOEMA MANZANERO of Bullet Tree Falls village. She has won the Courts giveaway for Teachers, an impressive $7,000 in prizes, including furniture. You are Teacher of the year for Cayo! And we salute you NOEMA ELYDE MANZANERO." Cayo Adventure Tours took 5 moms rock climbing, zip lining, and canoeing in Barton Creek Cave. Plus TV's Divaz Next Door will be airing the adventure next week, but here's a preview. Looks like they were in good hands with Teddy Waight, known for his tubing adventures in Bullet Tree Falls.
"Looking up, around and down into the water...pausing now and then to breathe in deeply and exhale slowly with my eyes closed to fully take in the moment and be grateful for the entire experience. I couldn't keep my eyes closed for too long because I didn't want to miss a moment of this opportunity. Quartz shimmering like diamonds as the 1000 candle lightbulbs bathed the rocks with illumination. Our tour guide from Cayo Adventure, Teddy, was highly knowledgeable and he deftly guided us through the water with his expertise and his stories."

Water Missions International Belize has a video out chronicling the Living Water Project that they did in Cayo's Valley of Peace. They finished the one in Bullet Tree Falls last year. This great video captures everything about the project to bring very cheap, clean water to Valley of Peace.
"This was a video produced by a member of the One Desk Foundation team that joined us in Belize in late November to install a safe water treatment system at Valley of Peace village. Do you belong to an organization that would like to join us, too? Send us a message via our website or on our FB page and ask how!"
Their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Water-Missions-International-Belize/184431061574729 SHJC's Nviro club did a test run from Succotz to Bullet Tree. They are planning a river clean up along that route, and needed to find the best way to approach the clean up. Bullet Tree Falls' Parrot Nest Lodge got a good shout out.
"Did you dream of living like the Swiss Family Robinson as a kid? Live out your fantasy at the Parrot Nest Lodge in Belize. Here, you can sleep in a thatched tree house, under a 100 foot Guanacaste tree, surrounded by the Mopan River. Your neighbors will be parrots and a giant iguana!
Climb down from your treehouse for a free tubing adventure sponsored by the lodge. For two hours, you can float down the Mopan River, where you'll tons of wildlife. You'll also get to see the Bullet Tree Falls.
Explore the rest of Cayo from this centrally located hub—there's rivers, waterfalls, caves, archeological sites, jungle, and butterfly farms to check out. Or, just lounge in your hammock on your tree-porch while watching nature." Today's feelgood story. Patrick Jones spends a day in Bullet Tree to see all the new additions to the park, and to discuss the K.I.S.S. group. |
