The "science of happiness at work" is not soft new age touchy-feely nonsense says the iOpener Institute. Their research shows that it is a key element within successful firms. Take their survey to see how happy you are at work.

We'll discuss best practices for higher education alumni social media and which colleges are getting it right.
Marty Note This is a slideshare from @mattmcfadden. Matt spoke at Raleigh Internet Summit today about social and SEO. He mentioned MergeWeb.com, his company, figured out how to put social shares directly in an email. I've Tweeted for more on this as it sounds cool. Matt admitted they are still testing, but the ability to fire social shares without consumption of the content behind the link sounds cool.
Thoughts this slideshare was well done. I like the idea of social as only as good as the fit for your audience. I think this is true and points to the need for persona and segmentation work.

Too many times, nonprofits bombard potential supporters with complicated messages. Have one message (at a time) and convey it simply. People find it easier to agree with you and get on board if they understand you.

"In May, 2010, Matt Cutts denied that social signals had an effect on search rankings. In December of the same year, he declared that they were actually starting to work in the buzz and signals they were able to get through social media into the site authority factor of their ranking algorithm. Six months later, Google+ was born. The Penguin Update and subsequent tweaks to it have changed the way that search engine marketers approach aggressive optimization. The days of running rampant and blasting out bulk links are gone. Today, quality finally trumps quantity and the playing field has been leveled in a way that in essence puts a "governor" on how quickly they can ramp up the rankings on their domains. As social signals grow in their effects on search rankings for both Google and Bing, the ability to create amazing content and promote it on social media is quickly becoming the most important technique that internet marketers have in their arsenal. In 2013, it will likely eclipse link-building as a ranking factor. Here are three things you must understand to make it work for you today and to be ready for what lies ahead". Bringing classical music to students is not always easy. Except when you incorporate the hottest pop artists into it. Then students and kids around the world will be more than happy to listen. At least that’s the idea behind Collective Cadenza (CDZA), a group that invents “musical video experiments” that mashup today’s hits with the classics of, well, classical music. That’s the idea behind most of the videos. Others are just plain fun to listen to and watch.

UPDATE: Race is CANCELED-donate hotel rooms! This Sunday's NYC Marathon is canceled because of the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, but if you're one of the 47,000 registrants who had a hotel reservation, instead of canceling that reservation, Race2Recover wants to "urge those runners to donate their rooms to NYC residents who have been displaced from their homes." Spread the word!
