SignalR brought developers an easier way to build real-time, very responsive web applications. But, how does it play with other available technologies? I took a couple of days to implement a very common scenario needed in every Enterprise Application: A DataTable to do CRUD operations persisting changes on a database. My initial thought was this is going to be a trivial task, I have done DataTables a few times in the past. Then, I realized the real-time model with many concurrent users introduces a few challenges.

MSMQ simply provides wonderful capabilities when it comes to building asynchronous messaging based applications. You typically run into situations where two applications exchange messages through a queue – one application sends messages to a known MSMQ destination and the other application “listens” to this queue and picks messages up as and when they arrive.

This article is the fourth in the MVC Basic Site series, and presents in detail jqGrid integration in MVC 4.0 by using AJAX, JSON, jQuery, LINQ, and Serialization. The first part of the current article describe the building blocks used, and the next part continues with the presentation of the jqGrid integration steps into the MVC Basic Site solution by using AJAX, JSON, JavaScript, and all the building blocks presented before.

After creating my toastr post, a friend suggested marrying toastr and signalR and I thought that was a brilliant idea so I wired up a quick example. Clicking the ‘broadcast’ button will send a toast message to anybody who has the web page open!

MiniProfiler is a profiling library that helps you monitor the performance of your ASP.NET application. It is performant enough to be used in production. Developed by some members of the StackExchange team, it is available as a Nuget Package and is easy to get started with. Today, we’ll see how we can use it to Profile an ASP.NET application using EF Code First as its Data Access layer.

The recently released ASP.NET MVC 4 beta has enhanced mobile support through the introduction of new APIs and out of box support for jQuery Mobile. The Mobile web project template helps you develop targeted mobile web applications ground up. MVC 4 also has a new 'View Switching' functionality that helps adding Mobile capabilities to an existing site in a very clean way. In this article, we will see how we can take an existing MVC 4 application that is built for the desktop browser only and add mobile views to it.

When we are developing a 'data manipulation page', we almost always do the same thing: A 'table/grid' that is used to 'show records' of a table in a database, a 'create new record' page/dialog to add a new record to the database, an 'edit record' page/dialog to edit a record, and finally a way of 'deleting a record' in the database. Also, using AJAX, we can create more fast and interactive pages. Especially, jQuery and jQueryUI are invaluable libraries to perform manipulation in an HTML page and perform AJAX requests to the server.

I have been on a queueing kick lately, and have been looking for a software as a service provider that offers a queuing system in the cloud. The first obvious choices were: Windows Azure Service Busand Amazon Simple Queue Service. I would most likely choose Windows Azure, just due to the fact that I already have some apps running in Azure, but I do find something redundantly odd about how the Azure libraries are written for .NET developers.

MVC supports asynchronous controllers. This means that when a controller performs a potentially lengthy I/O bound operation, the thread can be freed to handle other requests. When the operation completes, the thread (or a different thread) can continue handling the request that was previously placed on hold. The result is a highly scalable web application, which can make better use of server resources.

Advantages of using RequireJS with Asp.Net MVC: -better JavaScript code reusability -reliable object and dependencymanagement -suitable for large and complex applicationsloads JavaScript files asynchronously -using the r.js tool it makes it easy to optimize page load, because it combines all dependencies into one file removing the need for you to search for dependencies manually

In this article, I implemented an HTML table that is real time synchronized between clients over server. You can use the same mechanism to implement a chat system, a real-time stock watching system, a real time monitoring system... so on. I focused on using SignalR in this article since I have written a complete article about jTable before.

This article will help you to build a manageable widget using MVC4 with Razor view. This is not a fully technical article, it will give you a clear concept about the importance of architectural design while building a custom component or feature for our product. Here I will show you the use of a nested partial view that depends on abstraction and also has the extendibility feature.

Asynchronous pattern is a very well known and common Design Pattern in systems that are built on top of executions. Like many other technologies, this pattern has an implementation in Windows Communication Foundation. The .NET Framework provides two Design Patterns for asynchronous operations:Asynchronous operations that use IAsyncResult objects. Asynchronous operations that use events. This article uses the IAsyncResult implementation for asynchronous communication.

It’s no surprise to people around me that I have a strong desire to code more, so I did just that on a Saturday several weeks back and here is what I built – a new devices + services scenario using a Gadgeteer, the .NET MicroFramework, Windows Azure Mobile Services and Pusher and Windows Azure Web Sites.

“MVC” stands for “Model-View-Controller”, which is a well-defined design pattern used to create, in this instance, web applications. The goal of MVC is to separate concerns across the application for better scalability, extensibility, and testability. ASP.NET MVC is simply that design pattern as implemented in Microsoft’s framework for building web applications.

Angular JS is designed with separation of concerns in mind. One of the best architectural features of Angular JS is, it makes it easier to separate HTML and JavaScript separated from each other while playing together at the same time. Features like directives and filters can be used to easily extend Angular’s expressions and behaviour of HTML elements without wasting a lot of time and energy.

SignalR has been around for a while now and people are using it to build stunning real-time applications. While this worked fine on a single server deployment, there was no production ready support for running it on a multi server environment (like Windows Azure). A little over a year ago Clemens Vasters released the Windows Azure Service Bus backplane for SignalR which made it possible to deploy SignalR in a web farm.

have only recently got into contact with Windows Communication Foundation (WCF). As a newbie, one of the things I struggled with at first was securing a WCF service with self-signed certificates. Never having used certificates and not knowing how it actually works, it was challenging task to say the least. Looking back now it makes me feel a little silly … For this post we will use a common business-2-business scenario. We will create a transport-secured (HTTPS) WCF service with certificate client-credential authentication.

Twitter Bootstrap is a great front-end framework and the documentation for this product is outstanding. Every use case is very well documented and is available for the developer. This project aims to help .NET MVC developers to write twitter bootstrap related code faster.
Routing is arguably the most important part of any web application. Good routes give you many advantages. If great routes are so important, then why has Microsoft given so little guidance as to how to proceed. There has to be a better way? What if there was an opinionated way to add specific routes to your application? It would insure that each controller action in your ASP.Net MVC application was routed uniquely and gave you all the advantages mentioned above. In addition, it would give you the freedom to add any routes you needed. Well luckily there is Ruby On Rails' resource routing... well something like it for ASP.Net MVC. Say Hello to RestfulRouting!

Much as I appreciate Object Relational Mappers and the C# type system there’s a lot of work to do if you just want create and persist a few objects. MongoDB alleviates a lot of that work with its Bson serialization code that converts almost any object into a binary serialized object notation and provides easy round tripping with JSON.
