"The destinies of men are subject to immutable laws that must fulfill themselves.  But man has it in his power to shape his fate, according as his behavior exposes him to the influence of benevolent or destructive forces.  When a man holds a high position and is nevertheless modest, he shines with the light of wisdom; if he is in a lowly position and is modest, he cannot be passed by." - The I Ching: Ch'ien / Modesty (15).

Africa: Pope Francis Endorses Tough Measures Against Clerical Child Abuse - AllAfrica.com

Africa: Pope Francis Endorses Tough Measures Against Clerical Child Abuse - AllAfrica.com | The Unseen World | Scoop.it

On Sunday, June 5, 2016, finally Pope Francis backed down and approved tough measures to sack the clergy who mishandle, or involve in, child sexual abuse. As the Pontiff empathised, bishops who are negligent in dealing with priests committing abuse will be removed under the new legal procedures.

Ordinarily, the canon law allows for a bishop to be removed for negligence to sanction priests who involve in sexual abuse, but this time round the new measures precisely prescribe child abuse as 'grave reasons' that could lead to dismissal.

The Papal stance intends to hold the clergy accountable if they fail to protect their flocks from paedophiles. Morally and spiritually speaking, religious leaders have the responsibility to protect their followers from sexual abuses.

Ecumenical Buddhism, Daoism, & Confucianism - Ecumenical Buddhism

Ecumenical Buddhism, Daoism, & Confucianism - Ecumenical Buddhism | The Unseen World | Scoop.it
The Nirvana Sutra is the final message of the Buddha before his parinirvana, and is considered the supreme and definitive expression of Mahāyāna. The Sutra presents an anonymous chronicler who documents the Buddha's responses to a series of interlocutors who query the Buddha on all matters of faith. The heart of the Sutra was completed around 300 C.E., with the text being expanded with additional material over the next century, and the Chinese edition finished in 421 C.E.[4] This places the Sutra in temporal relation to the works of Gregory, who wrote in the fourth century C.E. But the more substantive correspondence is with the doctrine of universal salvation.

The Nirvana Sutra maintains that even the icchantika (those who have slandered Dharma and rejected the Buddha) still retaining the capacity for enlightenment, for their essential Buddha-nature cannot be destroyed—and in this respect, it stands in tension with the Chinese Yogācāra tradition. It is here that the Nirvana Sutra and the works of Gregory share more than an incidental resemblance. Both reach toward the other from their respective traditions on the subject of universal salvation.

Anonymous Hades's insight:

The Buddha said: ‘Chunda, suppose there should be monks or nuns, laymen or laywomen who speak careless and evil words and slander the correct teaching, and that they should go on committing these grave acts without ever showing any inclination to reform or any sign of repentance in their hearts. Persons of this kind I would say are following the path of the icchantika.

Again there may be those who commit the four grave offenses or are guilty of the five cardinal sins, and who, though aware that they are guilty of serious faults, from the beginning have no trace of fear or contrition in their hearts or, if they do, give no outward sign of it.' - The Nirvana Sutra translated by Dharmaraksha.

Herukhuti - Ra Un Nefer Amen | The Metu Neter

Herukhuti - Ra Un Nefer Amen | The Metu Neter | The Unseen World | Scoop.it

"Herukhuti is the dispenser of divine justice. It is the faculty that protects us from our enemies. It is the spiritual mechanism behind our physical and spiritual immunity and our ability to overcome the resistances of the physical environment.

In the same manner that our physical immunity cannot protect us if we violate the laws of our body (eat incorrectly, indulge in excesses, etc.), this part of our spirit cannot protect us from the injustices of others and from psychic invasion if we violate its law.

In conformity with the law that you reap what you sow, the [practitioner] at this state meditates on being just with others, and makes a commitment to confess to his peers and kin (not enemies) any injustice that has been done to another. The spiritual strength to carry this out awakens this faculty to its role of providing protection [for oneself and others]." -

Excerpts from The Metu Neter, Volume One by Ra Un Nefer Amen
(ISBN 1-877662-03-8):
Stages of Initiation - The Fifth Sphere, Herukhuti.

Editor's note: In defining the influences of Herukhuti, Ra Un Nefer Amen states that the language of the Yoruba, Herukhuti is called, Ogun. Additionally, Herukhuti belongs to the planet Mars and assumes the attributes of astrological signs Aries & Scorpio. Finally, select attributes of Herukhuti can be directly traced to the teachings of Kundalini Yoga and the Dravidians.

Rho Ophiuchi Wide Field by Rogelio Bernal Andreo

Rho Ophiuchi Wide Field by Rogelio Bernal Andreo | The Unseen World | Scoop.it

Explanation: The clouds surrounding the star system Rho Ophiuchi compose one of the closest star forming regions. Rho Ophiuchi itself is a binary star system visible in the light-colored region on the image right. The star system, located only 400 light years away, is distinguished by its colorful surroundings, which include a red emission nebula and numerous light and dark brown dust lanes. Near the upper right of the Rho Ophiuchi molecular cloud system is the yellow star Antares, while a distant but coincidently-superposed globular cluster of stars, M4, is visible between Antares and the red emission nebula. Near the image bottom lies IC 4592, the Blue Horsehead nebula. The blue glow that surrounds the Blue Horsehead's eye -- and other stars around the image -- is a reflection nebula composed of fine dust. On the above image left is a geometrically angled reflection nebula cataloged as Sharpless 1. Here, the bright star near the dust vortex creates the light of surrounding reflection nebula. Although most of these features are visible through a small telescope pointed toward the constellations of Ophiuchus, Scorpius, and Sagittarius, the only way to see the intricate details of the dust swirls, as featured above, is to use a long exposure camera.

IC 4592: The Blue Horsehead Reflection Nebula by Scott Rosen

IC 4592: The Blue Horsehead Reflection Nebula by Scott Rosen | The Unseen World | Scoop.it

Explanation: Do you see the horse's head? What you are seeing is not the famous Horsehead nebula toward Orion but rather a fainter nebula that only takes on a familiar form with deeper imaging. The main part of the above imaged molecular cloud complex is a reflection nebula cataloged as IC 4592. Reflection nebulas are actually made up of very fine dust that normally appears dark but can look quite blue when reflecting the light of energetic nearby stars. In this case, the source of much of the reflected light is a star at the eye of the horse. That star is part of Nu Scorpii, one of the brighter star systems toward the constellation of the Scorpion Scorpius. A second reflection nebula dubbed IC 4601 is visible surrounding two stars on the upper right of the image center.

Pope Francis met on Wednesday with the parents of an American college student whose body was found in the Tiber River this week, a victim of what the police are calling robbery and murder.

In an early morning private and unscheduled meeting with the parents before his usual audience with pilgrims, Francis expressed “feelings of deepest sympathy and compassion, and his closeness in prayer to the Lord” for the family’s loss, the Vatican said in a statement. The Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, identified the parents as Nick and Jodi Solomon.

The 15 Diseases of Leadership, According to Pope Francis - Harvard Business Review

The 15 Diseases of Leadership, According to Pope Francis - Harvard Business Review | The Unseen World | Scoop.it
Pope Francis has made no secret of his intention to radically reform the administrative structures of the Catholic church, which he regards as insular, imperious, and bureaucratic. He understands that in a hyper-kinetic world, inward-looking and self-obsessed leaders are a liability.

Last year, just before Christmas, the Pope addressed the leaders of the Roman Curia — the Cardinals and other officials who are charged with running the church’s byzantine network of administrative bodies. The Pope’s message to his colleagues was blunt. Leaders are susceptible to an array of debilitating maladies, including arrogance, intolerance, myopia, and pettiness. When those diseases go untreated, the organization itself is enfeebled. To have a healthy church, we need healthy leaders.

Through the years, I’ve heard dozens of management experts enumerate the qualities of great leaders. Seldom, though, do they speak plainly about the “diseases” of leadership. The Pope is more forthright. He understands that as human beings we have certain proclivities — not all of them noble. Nevertheless, leaders should be held to a high standard, since their scope of influence makes their ailments particularly infectious.

Francis: Christians must apologize to gay people for marginalizing them | National Catholic Reporter | The Unseen World | Scoop.it
In a press conference Sunday on the flight back to Rome after his weekend trip to Armenia, the pontiff said bluntly: "The church must say it's sorry for not having comported itself well many times, many times.""I believe that the church not only must say it's sorry ... to this person that is gay that it has offended," said the pope. "But it must say it's sorry to the poor, also, to mistreated women, to children forced to work."

Papal decree pledges to remove bishops 'negligent' in dealing with sexual abuse - Houston Chronicle | The Unseen World | Scoop.it
Pope Francis has pledged zero tolerance for anyone in the church who abuses children, and has likened such abuse to a "satanic Mass."
Anonymous Hades's insight:

This move was highly-anticipated.  Though there was no way of knowing Pope Francis would issue his decree now (or ever), one could see the signs during the time before its release.

Now parishioners can get down to the business of ridding themselves of the predators among them.

A dive
to bring to the surface
the wave
which drags
and frees
the consciousness
this vast ocean,
stars and grains
lowercase of sand,
unknown universes
inside and outside
from me.
The words,
musical notes
pooled,
harmonious colors
that mixed together
the words express
what I see and feel
flowing,
slipping away from me,
air
escaping from my lungs ...
The words,
swimming around to the surface,
hasty and free,
are always in search of the future
this sea
finding,
sun and stars,
poetry and flowers,
free.

Anonymous Hades's insight:

"Through repetition of danger we grow accustomed to it. Water sets the example for the right conduct under such circumstances. It flows on and on, and merely fills up all the places through which it flows; it does not shrink from any dangerous spot nor from any plunge, and nothing can make it lose its own essential nature. It remains true to itself under all conditions. Thus likewise, if one is sincere when confronted with difficulties, the heart can penetrate the meaning of the situation. And once we have gained inner mastery of a problem, it will come about naturally that the action we take will succeed. In danger all that counts is really carrying out all that has to be done--thoroughness--and going forward, in order not to perish through tarrying in the danger." - The I Ching: K'an / The Abysmal (Water) (29).

"The Priest and I happen to be the same guy.
The reason is simple and I'll tell you why:
When people sin, and they're not on the level,
I don't hate the sinners, I go after the devils." -

The Cat's Paw Nebula by Jason Ware

The Cat's Paw Nebula by Jason Ware | The Unseen World | Scoop.it

Explanation: Nebulae are as famous for being identified with familiar shapes as perhaps cats are for getting into trouble. No cat, though, could have created the vast Cat's Paw Nebula visible in Scorpius. The Cat's Paw Nebula is the glowing red nebula near the top of the above picture -- the lower nebula is NGC 6357. At 5500 light years distant, Cat's Paw is an emission nebula with a red color that originates from an abundance of ionized hydrogen atoms. Alternatively known as the Bear Claw Nebula or NGC 6334, stars nearly ten times the mass of our Sun have been born there in only the past few million years.
