An 8×8 dot led matrix is a very interesting device because with proper instructions the individual leds or any group of leds can be programmed to fire. This characteristic, plus the feature that up to eight modules can be daisy chained, forms the basis for a nearly endless series of visual effects. Here we discuss the very basics of working with one MAX7219 dot led matrix module. A simple sketch is provided that creates a ‘smiley’ followed by a simulation of a bouncing ball.

Fuse is a vital protection device for many electronic devices. They simply monitor the current consumed by the circuit/load and in the event of unsafe current flowing through the circuit the fuse will blow itself and thus prevent the load/circuit form getting damaged by that high current. This type of fuse is called a mechanical fuse and there are many types of fuse such as fast blow, slow blow etc, but they suffer from one common draw back. When a fuse is blown it has to be replaced by the consumer/operator to make the device function normal again. This is the reason why many old electronic devices like toaster or electric kettle had a spare fuse provided along with the product.

To overcome this drawback, most of the modern electronic devices use an Electronic Fuse. An Electronic Fuse serves the same purpose of that of a mechanical fuse but it requires no replacement. It has a power electronic switch inside with closes and opens the circuit as required. In the unlikely event of a failure the switch is open the circuit and isolate it from the power supply, once the favorable condition returns the fuse can be reset by just clicking on a button. There is no hassle of purchasing a suitable value of fuse and replacing it for the old one. Interesting right?!! So, In this tutorial we will learn how to construct an Electronic Fuse circuit, how it works and how you could use one in your designs.

We recently visited NextFlex, the flexible electronics manufacturing institute in Silicon Valley, where they developed a flexible prototype based on the Arduino Mini. Their mission is to make flexible electronics mainstream, opening up all kinds of new applications.

How did you make the flexible Arduino prototype?
Some of the equipment we use is familiar. For example, automated screen printers and industrial inkjet printers. We used them to print the circuit on a 1mm thick flexible plastic ‘board’ (known as the substrate).

We then took the microcontroller silicon die, which is usually inside a chip package, and connected it directly to the substrate. For this, we used our production-level assembly equipment for precision adhesive dispense, die, and component attach.

Using these techniques, we’re able to create flexible wire connections with a resolution of 50um (that’s 0.005 cm, roughly the thickness of a human hair).

The dot matrix that we’re going to use in this guide is a 8×8 matrix which means that it has 8 columns and 8 rows, so it contains a total of 64 LEDs.

The MAX7219 chip makes it easier to control the dot matrix, by just using 3 digital pins of the Arduino board.

I think the best option is to buy the dot matrix with the MAX7219 chip as a module, it will simplify the wiring. You can check the dot matrix at Maker Advisor and find the best price.

You can control more than one matrix at a time. For that you just need to connect them to each other, as they have pins in both sides to extend the dot matrix.

Depuis septembre, le Collège Saint-Bernard de Drummondville a entrepris une révolution en éducation, si bien que des chercheurs se pencheront bientôt sur ce modèle.

Le Collège a détruit sept classes pour créer trois grands espaces qu’il appelle « zones innovantes ».


Des tables, des banquettes et des coussins remplacent les pupitres, alors que les vitres et les portes servent de tableaux pour écrire.

Why We Built Adafruit IO
Here at Adafruit, we sell all of these amazing components, but we couldn't find a good way to interact with them over the Internet. There are certainly a lot of great services out there for datalogging, or communicating with your microcontroller over the web, but these services are either too complicated to get started, or they aren't particularly fun to use. So, we decided to experiment with our own system, and that's Adafruit IO.

Small microcontroller audio projects are designed to play very specific types of audio files. If your music sample is in MP3 format, or 44KHz .wav or if you have grabbed a sample from a source (or the Internet) and do not know how it was encoded, you'll want to convert it to the right format.

This way you will get the best sounding audio, and it'll make using audio with your code painless!

This page will show how to convert your sound file(s) into PCM 16-bit Mono WAV files at 22KHz sample rate, which is usually best for the current crop of microcontrollers which take WAV files and play them on a speaker.

Currently, we are recommending two ways to convert the files: via use of the program Audacity or via iTunes. Other software may do similar conversions, just remember the parameters above when you do the conversion.

Servo Motor has an advantage over normal DC motor because it can move shaft very precisely even at a particular angle. It is very useful in embedded and electronics applications for controlling the robotic arm, sensor or moving object connected to its shaft at a certain angle. It has integrated gears and circuit that providing feedback system.

In this tutorial, an RC hobby servo is directly connected to the arduino board. Servo motor current consumption is very high so some time arduino can’t drive it. A standard servo can be positioned at a different angle from 0 to 180 degree. We can move the servo at a particular angle by doing the servo programming.
