Spaltung: Aus Bitcoin wird Bitcoin und Bitcoin Cash | #CryptoCurrency #ICT

Spaltung: Aus Bitcoin wird Bitcoin und Bitcoin Cash | #CryptoCurrency #ICT | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Innovate My School - How to develop effective edtech integration | #ModernEDU #ICT #Pedagogy | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Technology is bringing a holistic, radical change to the new generations’ life. The learners that we currently have in schools are those who Snapchat their daily life experiences, YouTube their practices and share their voices by tweeting; they have the world at the tips of their fingers.“The fear is that digital natives will start perceiving school as non-authentic.” In minutes, they can change a thought to a video, a live stream or a podcast that they can share globally.

Technology integration as a process

As mentioned earlier, technology integration is a process that is incorporated in lesson planning. It is not about picking up an app and forcing it into teaching to make it more attractive. With pedagogy steering the process, the first step is to identify the learning objectives. Typically, the teacher will then decide on the methods and assessment tools to achieve learning objectives in a student-centered learning environment.

These are compelling reasons to practice social media in schools as it helps engage parents, the community, and the world.  Teaching digital citizenship is another key aspect of responsible use of social media for students and parents!

Diamond Garcia's curator insight, May 14, 2024 7:28 PM
Although this was published almost 10 years ago, the information found in this article still remains true. With social media continuing to be on the rise, it is time that we embrace it. I really enjoy the idea of utilizing social media to connect with experts rather than depend on textbooks (point #7).

Didactic model of the "first transistor".In this project the models such as constructing a didactic model of the first transistor for which I made use of the materials that can be easily obtained, in addition to a little painting, the prototype / model I did on a scale a little larger than the original.

But from before, a bit of history. It all started at Bell Labs, where American physicists Jhon Bardeen, Walter Houser Brattain, and William Shockley conducted experiments and observations to try to create a solid-state amplifier, making use of the properties of semiconductor materials, thus replacing the Vacuum used at that time. The above image shows the first transistor created at Bell Labs in Murray Hill, New Jersey, United States in 1947.

Its inventors won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1956 for "their research on semiconductors, and the discovery of the transistor effect." Now we continue with the instructions...

Teaching 21st Century Skills For 21st Century Success Requires An Ecosystem Approach | #eSkills #ICT

Teaching 21st Century Skills For 21st Century Success Requires An Ecosystem Approach | #eSkills #ICT | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
It is almost universally acknowledged that in order to succeed in the 21st century, students must learn much more than the “three Rs” and basic computer competency.

The term “21st century skills” is used often in educational circles to refer to a range of abilities and competencies that go beyond what has traditionally been taught in the classroom, including problem solving, communication, collaboration, creativity and innovation. Others define the term as “information literacy, media literacy, and information, communication and technology literacy.”

More importantly, students need these skills because employers across a huge variety of industries increasingly demand them. A recent McKinsey report indicated that close to 40 percent of employers could not find people with the right skills while 60 percent “complain[ed] of a lack of preparation.” Even jobs that were once considered vocational, such as welding, petroleum production, and even factory work, are now high tech, and require specialized knowledge that includes not only a robust science background and familiarity with the computerized machinery that keeps heavy industry humming, but also critical thinking and collaboration skills. In other words, 21st century job growth is outpacing our ability to develop a prepared workforce, making it more critical than ever to teach these skills.

As a profession, we are a group of people with extraordinary potential: the potential to craft life-changing experiences, or to design resources that help productivity and engagement soar. But we will need to let go of convention, and swim to the surface

Get Challenged

A PLN is not necessarily a group of like-minded individuals. If that were the case, you wouldn’t be seeking out other opinions in the first place because it’s likely you already have a group of people in your life who feel and think exactly the same way as you.

PLNs provide you with people who have different viewpoints on hot topic issues and, if they’ve been vetted beforehand, have a wealth of knowledge, credentials, and research to back up their arguments.

As educators, sometimes we haven’t fixed the problem because we keep using the same method to solve it. A student is struggling with math and we send them to the same tutor, or explain it the same way, or use the same software. Sometimes we need someone to come in and point us in the opposite direction before a solution is found.

Sometimes we need someone to come in and point us in the opposite direction before a solution is found.

Bitcoin Rival Launches in Volatile First Day | #CryptoCurrency #BitcoinCash #ICT | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Bitcoin Cash, a tweaked version of the digital currency created by one side in an industry rift, started trading Tuesday. If it wants to be bitcoin’s equal, it is about 10% of the way there.

Most digital currency exchanges and services at this point aren’t supporting Bitcoin Cash. One exchange that is, China-based ViaBTC, has been allowing trading in the coin even before it goes live. On that basis, Bitcoin Cash was most recently trading at about 11% of a bitcoin’s value, roughly in line with traders’ projections in the days leading up to the launch.

With the original bitcoin trading at around $2,750, Bitcoin Cash was worth around $300. Another virtual currency tracker, Coinmarket.com, showed Bitcoin Cash falling to about $242 from a high of about $400 in volatile trading.

Glossary of Hattie's influences on student achievement - VISIBLE LEARNING

Glossary of Hattie's influences on student achievement - VISIBLE LEARNING | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

This Glossary explains influences related to student achievement published in John Hattie’s Visible Learning for teachers (Hattie 2012; 251ff). You can find an older list of  influences related to student achievement in Hattie (2009) Visible Learning.

1. Student Self-Reported Grades

2. Piagetian programs

3. Response to intervention

4. Teacher credibility

According to Hattie teacher credibility is vital to learning, and students are very perceptive about knowing which teachers can make a difference. There are four key factors of credibility: trust, competence, dynamism and immediacy. In an interviewHattie puts it like that: “If a teacher is not perceived as credible, the students just turn off.”

Examples for teacher credibility: Earn trust by showing trust towards pupils. Appear highly organised in the presentation of the subject matter. Develop a powerful style of speaking that uses few verbal hesitancies such as “OK” or “you know”. Reduce distance between teachers and students by moving or moving away from barriers (e.g., desk, podiums). Source: cie.asu.edu

5. Providing formative evaluation

6. Micro-teaching

7. Classroom discussion

8. Comprehensive interventions for learning disabled students

9. Teacher clarity

10. Feedback

Lifelong learning helps people, governments and business. Why don't we do more of it? | #ModernEDU

Lifelong learning helps people, governments and business. Why don't we do more of it? | #ModernEDU | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Learning throughout life makes sense. Research shows it is good for your health, your wealth, your civic engagement and your family’s future prospects. It prolongs your independent life and enriches your quality of life.

For companies, investing in worker skills makes sense too – it promotes flexibility and creativity, problem-solving, teamwork and an increased sense of agency among staff, making them happier and more productive. These are, of course, exactly the traits needed as companies face of the challenges of the latest industrial revolution.

For governments, supporting learning in later life helps to delay the onset of dependency among rapidly ageing populations; plays an important role in overcoming inequality and exclusion; and supports inter-generational learning, creating more resilient families and communities. More broadly, learning fosters improved well-being.

Jacques Delors, then President of the European Commission, summed this up in 1992 when he argued that lifelong learning was crucial to both economic prosperity and social cohesion.

Growth Mindset: A Driving Philosophy, Not Just a Tool

Growth Mindset: A Driving Philosophy, Not Just a Tool | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
It's important to recognize that a growth mindset is an overall paradigm for personal development rather than a pedagogical tool for measuring academic accomplishment.

5 Growth Mindset Practices

In their groundbreaking book, Professional Learning Communities at Work, Richard DuFour and Robert Eaker say it clearly when pointing out the issue that comes about when change initiatives are considered "a task to complete rather than an ongoing process." If we really want to improve our schools, our work, and the education of our students, we can do so by adopting a new mindset -- for everyone -- that would include:

  1. Being humble enough to accept that there are things about ourselves and our practices that can improve
  2. Becoming part of professional teams that value constructive critique instead of criticism
  3. Treating setbacks as formative struggles within the learning process instead of summative failures
  4. Realizing the restrictive role that timelines can play in reaching high standards, and using foundational philosophies such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to map systems so that everyone's growth is supported
  5. Create flexible grouping at all times so that nobody's trapped in any one course level or particular type of work.

Efficiency - Wikipedia | #Quality #LEARNing2LEARN

Efficiency - Wikipedia

A common but confusing way of distinguishing between efficiency and effectiveness is the saying "Efficiency is doing things right, while effectiveness is doing the right things." This saying indirectly emphasizes that the selection of objectives of a production process is just as important as the quality of that process.

Efficiency is very often confused with effectiveness. In general, efficiency is a measurable concept, quantitatively determined by the ratio of useful output to total input. Effectiveness is the simpler concept of being able to achieve a desired result, which can be expressed quantitatively but doesn't usually require more complicated mathematics than addition.

Efficiency can often be expressed as a percentage of the result that could ideally be expected, for example if no energy were lost due to friction or other causes, in which case 100% of fuel or other input would be used to produce the desired result. This does not always apply, not even in all cases in which efficiency can be assigned a numerical value, e.g. not for specific impulse.

Assessing Student Project Work | #ModernEDU #Rubrics

Assessing Student Project Work | #ModernEDU #Rubrics  | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Project work challenges students to think beyond the boundaries of the classroom, helping them develop the skills, behaviors, and confidence necessary for success in the 21st-century. Designing learning environments that help students question, analyze, evaluate, and extrapolate their plans, conclusions, and ideas, leading them to higher–order thinking, requires feedback and evaluation that goes beyond a letter or number grade. The term “authentic assessment” is used to describe assessment that evaluates content knowledge as well as additional skills like creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, and innovation.

Authentic assessment documents the learning that occurs during the project-building process and considers the real-world skills of collaboration, problem solving, decision making, and communication. Since project work requires students to apply knowledge and skills throughout the project-building process, you will have many opportunities to assess work quality, understanding, and participation from the moment students begin working.
