After months of anticipation, OpenAI has released a powerful new image- and text-understanding AI model, GPT-4, that the company calls “the latest milestone in its effort in scaling up deep learning.”

GPT-4 is available today via OpenAI’s API with a waitlist and in ChatGPT Plus, OpenAI’s premium plan for ChatGPT, its viral AI-powered chatbot.

ChatGPT's advanced abilities, such as debugging code, writing an essay or cracking a joke, have led to its massive popularity. Despite its abilities, its assistance has been limited to text -- but that is going to change soon. 

GPT-4 is set to launch next week, allowing for the possibility of text-to-video generation, according to an address from Andreas Braun, CTO of Microsoft Germany, at the AI in Focus -- Digital Kickoff. 

Predictive-learning models have been around for decades, but what is new about ChatGPT is the way it is trained, which gives it access to far larger amounts of data.
This allows it to pick up patterns and means it can generate very realistic-sounding articles, stories, poems, dialogues, plays and more.

However, applications like ChatGPT are steady-state systems, which means they aren’t evolving in real time, although they may be constantly refined offline.

At the company’s campus in Redmond, Washington, today, executives unveiled a new version of Bing incorporating technology behind startup OpenAI’s viral chatbot ChatGPT. The updates will see Bing results include smooth, written responses to queries that summarize information found on the web, and the addition of a new chatbot interface for complex queries.

OpenAI has launched its first subscription plan for ChatGPT, opening up the popular AI model for premium use just two months after its public launch.

The new plan, called ChatGPT Plus and announced in a company blog post on Wednesday, will charge subscribers $20 for monthly use of ChatGPT’s tools. Users will get priority access to ChatGPT “during peak times,” faster responses and “priority access to new features and improvements,” the company wrote. The subscription is only available initially in the United States and will roll out to a waitlist first.

OpenAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the announcement. The company also noted in its post that a waitlist is now available for an upcoming ChatGPT API.

On Thursday, OpenAI announced a plugin system for its ChatGPT AI assistant. The plugins give ChatGPT the ability to interact with the wider world through the Internet, including booking flights, ordering groceries, browsing the web, and more. Plugins are bits of code that tell ChatGPT how to use an external resource on the Internet.

Basically, if a developer wants to give ChatGPT the ability to access any network service (for example: "looking up current stock prices") or perform any task controlled by a network service (for example: "ordering pizza through the Internet"), it is now possible, provided it doesn't go against OpenAI's rules.

The new model, which can be accessed via the $20 paid version of ChatGPT, is multimodal, which means it can accept input in both text and image form. It can then parse and respond to these queries using text.
