California's Maximum Family Grant rule denies financial support to babies born while their families are receiving grants from the state's welfare program. An effort is underway to repeal the rule and to deconstruct the narrative that poor women have babies for money.

A Dangerous Ruling in the Bode Miller-Sara McKenna Child Custody Battle Takes Fathers' Rights Way Too Far\ | Herstory | Scoop.it

I understand that fathers have rights, and I’m all for that. But this ruling took those rights way too far, to the point of dangerousness. It treated a fetus as a child, for purposes of a custody battle. And in doing so, it threatened to limit the rights of a pregnant woman to move and travel.

My mom was a stay-at-home, as was the mother of my children for many years. It required sacrifice, but only in an economic sense. Not at all to diminish working mothers, either by choice or by necessity, but  what is a stay-at-home mom worth? She's priceless, and I think we ought to live in the world's wealthiest society constructed to acknowledge that and to allow more women to be stay-at-home moms.
