“...let’s not waste new beginnings.” R - Overall, the OECD has a good reputation of being reliable and showing accurate facts. The author, Marie-Hélène Doumet, also doesn’t seem to have a troubling reputation. A - This article, published by the OECD, is heavily based on statistics and their own percentages. Because of this, the author could simply just be reporting about an issue and did not experience anything first hand. V - At the end of the day, this author will be paid by her boss no matter what. Thus, there is vested interest because the writer will be receiving a form of payment by writing and publishing this article. E - Marie-Hélène Doumet is the Senior Analyst and the OECD Directorate for Education and Skills. Because this article is mostly made up of statistics and percentages, her being the Senior Analyst makes her qualified to write an article written like this one. N - I think Doumet was successfully able to remain neutral and explicitly just state facts and logical conclusions from those facts. Some of the topics, such as women being more likely to complete tertiary education than men, could be perceived as biased since she herself is a woman, but she quickly stated facts and showed percentages that support her claim.

This study actually proves that digital/online learning is generally more effective than traditional learning. I can honestly say that I was a bit surprised. I am a firm believer in classroom settings as I felt as if I was "forced" to pay a lot more attention when sitting in front of the teacher, but I guess I am not the majority.

This is a long document, but worth the read! The introduction outlines the 8 critical characteristics of future education and it aligns really well with what we're doing... plus some tweaks!

Re-scooped from Leona Ungerer. Meris Stansbury (2015) reports in this brief article on the reasons faculty don't use OER. Many claim they are unaware of what OER are, and if they do know what OER are, they don't have time or the resources to find them.

From 2014 but interesting to reflect. Private providers seem to get it faster than our HEI's. |
