In this he looks at things from the perspective of structure and abstraction and concludes that in the more complex domains the teams, communities nd networks that form need to be less permanent and more flexible. This is definately something that anyone in the coming new century needs to learn how to do effectively. Do we want regurgitation or depth of learning from knowledge gained? I value, for example, how Scoop.it allows for the 'web interface' to be looked after, by them ,and the curation and learning happens with us!

I have been thinking lately about professional relationships and what role they play in how we learn as professionals, and as people. It would be difficult to learn much in total isolation. . The big picture of this can be overwhelming to a novice. It is a mindset change that requires understanding the culture of connectedness before a real immersion can take place. Educators need a basic knowledge of digital literacy to get started. This will quickly, and very painlessly grow with continued connectedness. There are several connected communities to help educators get started. . The Educator’s PLN is a start. www.edupln.com. . Twitter is probably the best way to experience the need and benefit to connectedness in developing both professional and personal relationships with other educators. Remember that in a group of like-minded people, as smart as any individual is, the group is always smarter. The concept of Personal Knowledge Mastery is growing in popularity as we all seek to make sense of what our best next step should be in this incredibly complex world. PKM offers an approach that connects work with learning and at its heart is a principle of seeking information, making sense of it and sharing it in a reciprocal manner with others that broadens understanding and can lead to new insights and action.
In this article Harold Jarche (the leading author on PKM) argues that in more complex realms the groups (teams, communities and networks) that form to address knowledge areas need to be more open, informal and transient to be able to deal with the issues at hand. This suggests that the kind of leadership qualities that need to be developed to be successful in these complex times are those associated with being open, humble, curious, flexible and trustworthy.
