Les métavers offrent la possibilité de se connecter virtuellement avec des personnes physiques du monde entier, dans des représentations de n’importe quel univers, de manière beaucoup plus disruptive et immersive qu’une visioconférence Zoom. Les opportunités commerciales pour les marques sont très vite apparues évidentes.

Actuellement, ce sont les développeurs qui mènent encore le jeu. Ils construisent les mondes virtuels qui vont offrir tout ce que l’on peut désirer, où les marques s'entrechoquent et où les moyens de divertissement fusionnent. Attirés par un potentiel commercial à priori illimité, des entreprises de tous bords s’empressent d’annoncer leur intention de rejoindre ces métavers. 

Et ce n’est probablement qu’un début. Car d’un point de vue marketing, les métavers apportent aux marques une occasion intéressante d'entrer en contact avec des consommateurs auxquels elles avaient auparavant accès (ou pas) par des canaux plus traditionnels.

In a recent survey, nearly all higher education chief online officers expected online learning of some kind to be a part of the typical student experience within the next three years. While survey respondents did not necessarily agree on how much online would become the norm, it's clear that hybrid models are favored to dominate instruction by 2025.

The use of virtual reality and augmented reality in environmental education is controversial, but there are clear benefits.

Universities will also need to carefully consider the relative merits of housing courses on, and offering them via a MOOC platform as opposed to doing this themselves. Whilst it’s easy to make a fairly unsophisticated argument that going it alone means not incurring any 3rd party costs, HEIs need to conduct a cost benefit analysis in reference to their strategy to come to sound decisions.

It’s also worth noting that this doesn’t need to be an either/or decision, in fact a horses for courses approach could be effective, especially where institutions are confident in reaching and recruiting from the target audience themselves and where they have a strong online learning proposition already.

In essence what characterises all of this advice is deliberate, strategic, well-informed and  thought-through decision making in relation to MOOC platform partnerships. Some universities have not always been very rigorous in this respect. 

Nevertheless, as we enter a new era for online education, one in which there seems to be more universities developing partnerships to offer an online portfolio of courses, it will be interesting to observe whether MOOC platform partnerships will play a role in that and what this ultimately begins to look like.
