SHARK TANK-Helpful or Harmful for Start-Ups?

SHARK TANK-Helpful or Harmful for Start-Ups? | A Marketing Mix | Scoop.it
The hit TV show “Shark Tank” helps start-ups get started. Would-be business owners come on the series to solicit money and help from a panel of five heavy-hitting entrepreneurs. After giving a pitch and going through a grilling, the contestants find out if they’ll get funded or not and how much equity they will have to give up.

On the air for five years and counting, “Shark Tank” is an entertaining and successful show. However, as a founder of 16 start-ups, my criteria for evaluating potential businesses differs from most of the panelists—I often find myself arguing with the screen.

Testing.... Crucial for Small and Large Companies

Testing.... Crucial for Small and Large Companies | A Marketing Mix | Scoop.it

Last year I wrote a blog on Testing. . .Reduces Risk and Maximizes Success. It was geared to small Business. I said, “Large companies can absorb a failed product. Small company failures can be fatal. Now I would like to focus on two very large entities who neglected to test their ideas and paid a heavy price due to their ideas’ failure, which could easily have been avoided by testing.

What I find most interesting about this is the fact that the issued noted are exactly the same for real world businesses, including retail; however, the data is easier to obtain in the digital world, as opposed to ethographic research.

Facebook Fan Pages now have a dedicated feed

Facebook Fan Pages now have a dedicated feed | A Marketing Mix | Scoop.it

Have you used Facebook today? If so, you may have noticed a new tab called “Pages Feed” in the left sidebar of your homepage.

Clicking the tab will reveal a separate newsfeed tailored to only display content from the Pages a user follows. Updates appear in the order they are published, with the latest content at the top.

[I hope this is a REAL fix.]

Facebook is not manipulating news feeds says Facebook - Leaders West

Facebook is not manipulating news feeds says Facebook - Leaders West | A Marketing Mix | Scoop.it

There was a time when MySpace was in the situation Facebook is now facing.

The big question on a lot of people’s lips has been: “Has Facebook tweaked EdgeRank to force me to pay to promote my content?”

In his article, Jim Dougherty makes very valid points regarding the fallacy a lot of us have been led to believe:

“The mythology that brand pages will be a efficient marketing platform or customer service vehicle for the discount price of elbow grease and moxy is false. The preponderance of evidence of Facebook’s inefficiency is overwhelming, capped by Facebook’s backhanded admission on their blog.”
