What this means is that anyone from anywhere will be able to access the metaverse and interact with others. There will be no barriers to entry and everyone will be on an equal playing field.
This is in contrast to the traditional internet composed of many different silos. For example, you have the U.S. internet, which is different from the Chinese internet, which is different from the Russian internet. The profound difference lies in regulatory environment, censorship, and data privacy. All these factors make it very difficult for people from different parts of the world to connect with one another. What’s next for the metaverse and what — if anything — should you do about it? Based on our experience, we’ve got six predictions to help business leaders answer that question. They cover where adoption will and won’t come next, which technologies will likely advance quickest, how you can act without putting your organization at risk and more. The short version: The metaverse isn’t fully ready for prime time, not yet. But it can already start to create real business value today and set you up for reinvention tomorrow. Boffins' beam forming kit opens the door to more realistic holograms
MIT's hardware speeds up light manipulation by a factor of 10 Brandon Vigliarolo
A research team led by MIT has developed a novel piece of kit that can drastically increase the speed and capability of optical beam forming technology and that's easy to produce at scale.
If commercialized, the team's new type of spatial light modulator (SLM) could open the way to super-fast LiDAR imaging for autonomous vehicles, improved medical scanners and even developing free-standing 3D holograms akin to those from Star Wars. Admittedly we'll be waiting on that last one for a while. Learn more / En savoir plus / Mehr erfahren: https://www.scoop.it/topic/21st-century-innovative-technologies-and-developments/?&tag=Hologram

Most Metaverse business projects will be dead by 2025
McKinsey forecasts market value of $5 trillion by 2030, Citi says up to $13 trillion, but Canalys doesn't agree
CANALYS CHANNELS FORUM The metaverse is a solution looking for a B2B problem – that problem being how to help Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg drum up billions of dollars in revenues – and it's going to fail in the not-too-distant future.
That is if you believe the good folk at Canalys, who are seemingly already buffing a gravestone for Zuck's version of the internet that we recently pointed out nobody really wants.
"Is the metaverse the next digital frontier or an overhyped money pit?" asked Matthew Ball, chief analyst at Canalys, at the company's Channels Forum in Barcelona.
"Tens of billions of dollars have already been invested, costs and delays to Meta's own progress is a barometer. Learn more / En savoir plus / Mehr erfahren: https://www.scoop.it/topic/21st-century-innovative-technologies-and-developments/?&tag=Metaverse

It wasn't the average marsquake that the Insight Mars lander heard rip-roaring through the red planet's ground last Christmas Eve.
NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter apparently found the source of the rumble a couple of months later from its vantage point in space: a spectacular meteor strike over 2,000 miles away near Mars' equator, estimated to be one of the largest impacts observed on the neighboring planet.
But what's thrilled scientists perhaps as much as or more than the recorded seismic activity is what the meteor uncovered when it slammed into Mars — huge, boulder-size chunks of ice blasted out of the crater. Up until now, underground ice hadn't been found in this region, the warmest part of the planet. Anyone who has been paying attention, however, will have realized that these visions often differ greatly. While Meta focuses on creating virtual reality environments, companies like Microsoft and Nvidia are developing metaverse environments for collaborating and working on digital projects. At the same time, those who believe the future of the internet is decentralized and built on blockchain are experimenting with non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to enable ownership of digital assets and decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) designed to bring digital democracy to the virtual worlds we inhabit. When we think about clothing, we usually think of it as something we wear to cover our body, convey our style and protect us from the environment. What if the cloth changes its visual appearance when you stretch your hand?... such mechanoresponsive material has enormous potential in a large range of transformative applications in the beauty and health industry.
Cholesteric Liquid Crystal Elastomer (CLCE) is a structurally coloured polymer system capable of changing its colour by mechanical deformation, due to the coupling of colour of helically aligned liquid crystal molecules and the viscoelasticity of rubber. Prof. Jan Lagerwall, Dr. Yong Geng and Rijeesh Kizhakidathazhath at the University of Luxembourg created colour-changing CLCE fibres that can be easily sewn into the fabric.
Agrivoltaics - the practice of using land for both solar energy and agriculture - is on the rise across France.
In the Haute-Saône region, in the northeastern part of the country, an experiment is being conducted by solar-energy company TSE. It is hoping to find out whether solar energy can be generated without hindering large-scale cereal crops.
Previous attempts to experiment with agrivoltaics have been through smaller-scale projects. But, keen to see if it can thrive on an industrial level, 5,500 solar panels are being spread over this farm in the commune town of Amance by TSE.
If successful, the crossover could be revolutionary for both the agricultural and solar panel industries. Learn more / En savoir plus / Mehr erfahren: https://www.scoop.it/t/21st-century-innovative-technologies-and-developments/?&tag=Renewable+Energy

Google has silently acquired a widely-used K-12 data and analytics company.
The tech giant confirmed, in an email to EdSurge, that it's picked up BrightBytes for an undisclosed amount.
The acquisition does not appear to have been publicly announced. And Google declined to provide any details, including when the sale had taken place.
But an email about the deal sent by Google to a school district in early May, obtained by EdSurge, cites May 17th as the expected date of the transaction.
The acquisition will help Google to transform school district data “into actionable intelligence to improve the academic and overall well-being of all students,” the email says.
It also states that Google might have updated the policy and privacy terms of use after the acquisition. Learn more / En savoir plus / Mehr erfahren: https://www.scoop.it/t/21st-century-innovative-technologies-and-developments/?&tag=Acquisitions

According to Gartner, by 2026 30% of companies worldwide will have meta-ready products and services. The convergence of new technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are enabling companies to not only simplify business processes and improve decision making, but revolutionise the ways customers can interact and experience products and services. While there is plenty of debate on the social and legal aspects of the metaverse, these new immersive worlds are turning virtual experiences into products and opening up new business opportunities.
